As a graphic designer, one thing that irks me is the windshield wiper delay markings. The markings on the delay timer increase, yet the time actually decreases. As the thickness decreases, the delay timer increases.

Someone did something wrong at Toyota. Or is this just my car?

I could see that both ways...

small hash marks - small delay (faster timer)
small hash marks - slower timer (fast delay)

But yeah I personally see it the way you do.

I think that line is supposed to represent "volume of water". So the thin line is for a very light drizzle, while the thick line is for an actual rainstorm (but not a super-heavy one).

Don't know if this has already been discovered but if I'm stuck at a red light with the ICE idling in EV mode with a half-full battery, I noticed that if I put the car back in HV mode, the car will put that gas to good use by charging the battery instead of wasting gas idling. I also suspect that using this technique will heat the ICE faster since it puts a load on the engine.

I think this is an error in the graphics. I notice this every night on the way home. The last 2 miles of my trip home are up hill so I'm in EV mode but i let the ICE kick on. I notice if i am at a light the ICE is running but the Arrows do not reflect charging. BUT I have noticed a few times the EV Range click up 0.1

The point is that if I am in EV mode, the ICE is idling with no arrows. However, if I switch to HV mode, a green arrow appear and feed the battery. I can charge up to 0.5 km until the traffic light switch to green. If I stay in EV mode, there is no regen at all. Try that next time you are not moving and the ICE is running. ;)

Toyota used to do it the other way. Our 2005 Prius (as well as every other Toyota we've owned) had it the way you described. The Gen 3 Prius is the first Toyota (and I suspect they've done it to all their newest vehicles) where the markings are "reversed". It took me a while to figure it out since I don't use the wipers here often. (just in the spring when everything melts and if I get caught in a thunderstorm.)

In other words, the graphics went from "delay time/interval time" to "interval speed". They've also gone to marking everything with symbols (except for the AUTO position on the headlight stalk). The old Prius had English words on the stalks.

Maybe I am just an old fogey, but all those cryptic icons replacing words are annoying to me. Sounds like political correctness at work: instead of "discriminating" against people in the U.S. who cannot read English, now nobody knows what they mean without digging through the user manual.

The PIP can be running in silent, 100% EV mode while under way- then you pull up to a traffic light- the ICE suddenly starts up (due to call for heat in the cab, etc..) as the light turns green and you start moving again- the ICE turns itself off as suddenly as it turned itself on... completely confusing the PIP occupants... :ROFLMAO:
Kind of counter-intuitive... but fun to explain.

The PiP also calculate EV miles in the "estimated miles remaining" display. When driving in EV mode, remaining miles can decrease ... or increase while you regen.

This is the first time I see the number of remaining miles increase in a car while driving :)

There's a blank switch under the Power button, so you can install anything there from a switch for auxiliary foglamps to an ejector seat.

Yes it does this. I have also noticed that the estimated miles varies according to the present load. I was driving with heat on and in EV. I showed about 5 miles remaining. I trurned off the heat and defroster and immediately it jumped to 6.5 w/o any regeneration because my power draw dropped and it recalculated based on lower auxiliary power drain.

Yeah- if you can actually find a switch that fits in that hole....

Standard Toyota switch, no? That's where the IPA/APGS Pre-Support button goes on 2010/2011 models.

Actually, it's much simpler than that – having any kind of climate control on reduces your range by either a fixed percentage or number of miles. Don't remember which, but point being, it doesn't actually measure the load.

If you plug in the EVSE to charge but you have not plugged in the other end of the cord (or have it on a timer or wall switch) you will see a small LED light come on where you plug into the car. You can press the rubber coated spring switch that detects when the charging door it opened and this will turn off the light.
