Now, if they keep it from breaking down and their dealers actually know how to fix it, they've got something. :p

it is PR car that "might" get production of 83 units per month.
We should all discuss how awesome this technology is and buy their diesels.

For us in the states, we might be able to get the Elio instead.
Ultra High Mileage Car : Elio Motors

Not an hybrid, but it does claim 49mpg city and 84mpg highway. While costing under $7000. It even uses tandem seating like the original XL1.

The Smart fortwo, and others, have used differing wheel sizes.

It is prioritizing efficiency. Narrow tires help reduce rolling and wind resistance.

That's how you get the killer city mpg, narrow tires -> low rolling resistance. A choice for efficiency versus handling. The rear wheel fairings reduce drag in back, but the narrow 15s up front should reduce drag up front.

I get that... doesn't mean they aren't still really tiny.

I just was explaining why they are narrow, not ignoring your point. Many don't even like the compromises in the prius, but this takes a lot more trade offs for efficiency.

It looks like the L1 concept but made affordable. Using 3 wheels instead of 4 not only reduces weight and rolling resistance, but lets it get classed as a motorcycle - allowing them to choose the safety devices.

If I hadn't been able to get a new car recently, I was seriously considering one. For the price, it still might be one in the future.
