They should drop a Prius from Space on a parachute. Make it a Joint Red Bull & X.png Toyota event. Have Felix Baumgartner come out of the drivers seat.

Just make sure it does not pass that Ford Fusion flying around out there somewhere.

Maybe we can have Felix Baumgautner do the old " Oh What A Moment" jump in his space suit when he lands.

As for looks, I don't care a bit. It's the absolute lowest priority trait for me.

A vanilla/chocolate issue. Fair to say you are in the minority though as style sells cars.

Then why would anyone ever buy a Prius? I certainly didn't buy my 04 for style.

That's actually a very good point!
While it's taken years for the look to warm up to people and now it's widely accepted, not so at all in the beginning.

In fact prius owners knew they would endure ridicule regardless whether they talked themselves into liking the looks or not.

The main strength the prius had back then was that it looked less dorky than the Honda insight.

While the insight never warmed up to people, the prius did because of wise marketing and many improvements and luxury options while maintaining it's lead in mpg the whole time.

The human imagination is amazing... With it, you can see a bug, a mate, or a car and think it's cute, ugly, hot, or classy, or disgusting ... Who's to say what looks good?

While the majority of car owners may value style over MPG I would imagine that's not true for the majority of Prius owners. The majority of Prius owners would likely take a slightly less appealing looking car for an extra 5 MPGs.

A couple more generations with that kind of improvement I would hope it would be one of the ugliest cars on the planet. It would be impossible to get otherwise.

Because Prius changed its design in 2010, gave the car some sharp edges and style to appeal to a larger audience.

It's a tough call, did the Prius becoming the number one selling car in California due to the redesign and looking more at stylish or was it that gas here in LA is never less than 3.50 and at 4.30 at the moment. Or is it a combination of the both those factors?

All I know is when my wife's 08 Camry is paid of in October I'm buying a prius for the MPG and the MPG alone. If the 14's are out then and were "uglier" with a 5 MPG improvement I'd gladly take the MPGs. That's what happens when the wife drives 25k miles a year!

I didn't buy it just for mpg either. I had a 2 door sports coupe, and a brand new baby. The 4 door plus liftback practicality, combined with range, Toyota quality and a good road feel were also major factors.

Oh I'm sure there are many people who were turned onto the Prius after 2010 and the style updates. It really caught my eye then but I had already planned on buying a Prius even before gen 3 was released.

I'm just saying I doubt the majority of Prius owners would rank style over MPG. It would be 3rd on my list when buying a car.

    1) MPG
    2) Reliability
    3) Style

So that's what an ugly child from a Lexus 200h and a Honda CRZ look like :D

Teasers and concept styling are always on the wild side. I would expect the finish product to be much tamer.

I personally like the aerodynamic look. I think the lower the aerodynamic drag, the longer the glide. The the longer the glide the better the mpg. When I bought the Prius I liked the smooth, low design. I think it has a 0.25 drag one of the best out there today; if they get it down to .2 that's huge. Some folks like the lines and edges for style, that's not Prius. Efficiency, and the futuristic look, means low wind drag. I'm thinking 60-65 mpg as the new bar.

Yes, Prius drivers want the best MPGs, but if Toyota takes it too far, goes down on power and size, I think sales will go down also. There comes a point where one may just need to get a plug-in or all electric instead of expecting super high mpg out of a non-plug in.

They need to stay close to the current shape; it's what makes a Prius.

Interesting how no other mfr besides Honda is 'copying' Prius, but they're all jumping in with 4 door sedans -

Camry hybrid, Honda Accord hybrid (coming this fall)
    Ford Fusion hybrid, Sonata hybrid
    Kia Optima hybrid, Altima hybrid
    Jetta hybrid,

So do you think the next Prius will be hatchback or a sedan (like the first generation for those that didn't realise the Prius came in a sedan)?

Does it make sense to have 3 Prius "utility" type vehicles? Toyota can cover more ground if they had a hatchback (Prius c), sedan (Gen 4 Prius) and wagon/mini MPV (Prius v)
