Since the Prius runs on electric at low speeds the inherent issues with running a cam with increased overlap would not be as much of an issue. is this correct?

I suppose one wouldn't have to worry about some of this if they just swapped the intake and exhaust cams and cam gear from the Otto cycle 1NZ-FE into our 1NZ-FXE...

    Someone just do it already!

I would think moving the entire engine would be easier and more reliable, since 13 to 1 is not a sensible compression ratio for a port injected otto cycle engine.

Buy a faster car. If you increase the power now you'll just want more next year after you get used to the speed. and then you will give it more power and get used to the speed after another year. then you wont be able to give the car more power because it has reached its limit and you will be bored of it.

I know huh - sounds like fun. :) Plus...no one else is doing it. Another reason why I want to try it. Your right, if I wanted a fast car - i'd buy something else. I got this car because I wanted to try something different. Pending license plate enroute - NOTNRML

"I want to be different than anyone else" is going to come in conflict with "I want to use stock parts" rather rapidly.
One of the reasons I recommend starting from a Echo/Yarus engine is that others have paved your way, they broke all those parts so you would not have to. Starting from the Prius engine will cost more as you get to break so many parts yourself. The one guy I saw who both super and turbo charged his Prius made many of his own parts as they did (and do) not exist.

You'd be surprised how many parts are swappable with 1NZ-FE..

looks like this may be a good resource for performance parts like cams pistons crank shaft etc. There is nothing I can see for the 1nz motor but there may be some things that are compatible.

There are a slew of companies that make parts for the 1nz - but the question/comment was accessing parts for the 1nz-fxe and the nonavailability. I replied that the 1nz-fe has tons of parts that are swappable. JUN AUTO even has Cams for the 1NZ, I just can justify dropping +$800 on a set of cams at this point when just dropping a used set of OEM 1NZ-FE cams & gear in would give the 1NZ-FXE quite a boost. Maybe if someone wanted to donate to Just'gonna'DoIts cause....

I can understand you want to destroy your Prius, but I doubt you will get anyone to pay you to.

Aw, come-on. "Destroy" is kinda harsh... upgrade is a much better choice of my intentions.

You will be fine so long as none of the moving parts ever move.

Lets try less pessimism and more optimism - The valves and rods are the same but I understand the Crank, cams (intake & exhaust), cam gear and pistons are different. To make sure nothing is damaged, I'll clay the pistons. May have to add some Corolla injectors..The real only concern I have is EMS.

Without the specs of the cams lift, duration etc. How do you know the stock 1NZ-FE cams will give you any boost in power at all? I would like to see data on the two. Lets say the stock 1NZ-FE cams do change the power curve and duration of the valves and someone did try it. These here (see link below) would add some protection (reduces valve float at high RPM) and a little less weight in the engine and I would say that these two mods would add a little extra power to the engine probably more so than with an intake and exhaust which tends to do next to nothing for power.

As far as EMS goes after installing these parts, just Pre dial 91 then when you have and accident do to the massive speeds you will gain in your Prius all you will have to do is dial the remaining 1 and you will have EMS there shortly.ahahahaha:ROFLMAO:

some company should have a plug in EMS programer for the Prius eventually like Haltech or someone.

1NZ-FE was swapped into the Prius alongside MG1&2 to do the Landspeed record bumping the stock 78hp to 108hp
Just no one locally has documented the CAM swaps into the Prius or Prius pistons into the Yaris/Echo.

Currently NO ONE claims to have EMS for the 1NZ-FXE...but there are several out there for the 1NZ-FE

If your looking at aftermarket parts for the 1NZ-FE - MicroImageOnline.com has several - thats a start.

Correct, I have consistently recommended using and if needed modifying a Echo/Yarus engine rather than mixing and matching parts from each engine. We know the 1NZ-FE makes 25 more HP stock and has a mature tuning community.

This setup has shown to boost hp higher than stock...just like other 1NZs with higher compression pistons...just with out the cost of ordering thru JE or some piston company of the sort...
