I pissed off an SUV driver today, unintentionally...

Sorry going off on a different subject.

I thought about doing the same thing, so with EV button engaged I can accelerate fairly quickly up to 25 mph before the ICE will kick in? I've never actually tried that, only used EV button mode when I am in the parking lot.

I thought when you step on the gas pedal fairly hard the ICE will kick in regardless if you are in driver select EV mode or not.

Agreed! I tend to try to drive like most people while also maintaining best fuel mileage, and when nobody is around, I drive like a grandma! I just don't want to give Hybrid drivers a bad name or make them think that driving a Hybrid is something stupid. It should be seen as the future, not a hassle! :)

I like that strategy, I will definitely have to try it! :D

Funny thing, but the blood clot actually happened in his left leg!

Probably from too much circulation going to the right leg between stomping on the gas and the brake. :p

After they recover from the initial shock of getting smoked by a Prius on the road... :D

The look of shock is priceless... "Wait, what?! "

A little practice will have you scooting away from stops without engaging ICE until 25+ mph. It does seems to plateau a bit between 21 and 25, and sometimes if I'm in a hurry or traffic is moving along, I'll press the gas pedal down enough to kick in the ICE at 18-20 mph. It's become a habit for me to press the EV button at stops, and it works best when the ICE has gone through it full warm-up cycle or else ICE will engage earlier.

I didn't capture this on the video, but when I passed that SUV I did get a look on the driver's face. And it's an expression I couldn't possible describe with words. It's not a finger flipping thing, if I was in any other car he would have flipped me off, but just like a shocked and puzzled look on his face. I swear I thought I saw a giant carton question mark above his head for a second there....

Here in Nebraska the law is that all highway lanes are "travel lanes," which drives me berserk since I learned to drive in Germany and Massachusetts.
The most fun is when a "macho truck" driver ahead is "snoozing" in the left lane doing a little under the speed limit.

Carefully blowing by them in the right lane and then watching the double-take when they recognize what kind of car went by gives me a cheap thrill. :D

Gotta love you folks on here. Accelerating at full EV speed is PERFECTLY acceptable until it cuts off and engages the ICE. I don't have to drive at the same speed as someone who's already pissed off enough to honk, flash lights, and say obscene things to me. That's the person with the problem, not me who's abiding by ALL rules that we all in this great nation have AGREED to upon issuance of our privilege to drive! If being considerate means that I have to match his speed when the light turns green, then screw all those who think that way! I'm not crawling like grandma on a Sunday afternoon after church, I'm at reasonable speeds and I am able to tell because others around me are driving at a similar speed as I am! geez...

As long as there is more than 1 lane then I agree with you. If I was in a hurry myself, I would simply pass you on the other lane. Takes little effort compared to what he did. What he did was stupid and uncalled for. Don't worry, people like that will pick on the "wrong" Prius one day like Yours Truely:D

BTW... "I'm not crawling like grandma on a Sunday afternoon after church" I'm never angry at Grandma either, everyone has one, and dammit as much as we refuse to admit, that will be us someday if we are lucky enough to live that long.

I'll be honest, I get amazing feelings when I pass aggressive cars or when I do something not typical of a Prius stereotype (i.e. drive fast or blast music). It gives me great satisfaction to have fun in the car too.

Same here, but... call me paranoid-ed, don't forget to warm up those tires 500-1000 miles and your car 2k miles before doing anything too crazy. I know I was guilty of this now and then.

Yes I am being slightly careful. The Toyota break in period for the Prius is 600 miles I think, and I'm almost at 700 now. But I will still wait to 1000 or so before going 80mph. I have crossed the 70mph threshold just a few times when it was necessary for survival on the highway, but aside from that, I tend to do okay. I have a philosophy though, and it is direct to this conversation. I picked up the philosophy from Yahoo Answers where a guy said "It is better to be a conservative Power Mode driver than an aggressive Eco Mode driver." So I usually drive conservatively in Power Mode (when dealing with heavier traffic) and Eco Mode when light or no traffic. And EV when I am a few blocks away from my apartment. I try to not piss off all the drivers as I realise their ignorance/stupidity/rudeness causes them to not care about my fuel mileage. Rather not have them go home complaining about "some moron in a Prius." :ROFLMAO:

Oh boy, we were already doing 75-80 when the car had 50 miles on it...

Our car is always on power mode, and ECO in parking lots.

    Smoked? At 83 mph?

Sorry, I'll just pick myself up of the floor. 83mph fast? :ROFLMAO:

Now if you were in 3 digits I'd be half impressed :)

I think 83mph is way above the "Norm" since the other drivers tends to think we all go 5-10 mph under the speed limit. So I think the shock factor came from the out of "norm" speed plus the "Prius on the fast lane!" and not the OMG did a jet just flew by speed.

And please don't encourage him to take the Prius over 100... I can see him making a video on the way from work taking it to top speed.:D

    OMG:eek:
