Are you happy with where the speedometer and multi-info display (HSI, etc...) are located in Prius?
Anyone else notice it takes quite a glance to the right (of left) to see the HSI? Like things as is, or have suggestions?

I don't care where they are, I would like to see them updated to a screen more modern like the Volt has for speed, fuel etc.

I am okay with the Prius, only because I have HUD. Ideally, I would like all the instruments as HUD on the windshield.

I like where they are now. I agree that with more color and a little better lay out will be a nice improvement. Also improving on HUD, I'd like to see that option for every package.

The Prius is the first car I've owned where I don't have to worry about the position of the steering wheel possibly obstructing the gauges. It's a great idea. As for a HUD, I had that on a Vette and the novelty wore off.

Interesting, my thinking is all about keeping my eyes on the road. It why I'm so peeved about the NAV. The voice commands suck, and I have to really take my eyes off the road to see it.

Actually, it's probably a moot point about placing gauges to see through the steering because it's so small, you wouldn't be able to see gauges anyway. Still, migration of gauges towards center of the dash seems pointless.

The digital speedo in 2nd gen Prius was more in front of the driver than in this 3rd gen.

Far as I can tell, there is no other hybrid, or plug in car from any manufacturer including Lexus with gauges placed near the center of the dash, only the Prius family (liftback, v, c, PiP). Doesn't look as though Prius is creating a new design trend with gauge placement.

Anyone have info from Prius engineers / design chief that they found an advantage to having the gauges near center of the dash?

I know a few people here have met with chief designers at reveals and such.

Do wish that the important readouts were more in front of the driver, but obviously it wasn't a deal breaker. I will gladly say that our 3rd Gen driver's environment is way improved over the 2nd Gen. I still enjoy driving this car and we've owned it for exactly one year today. Something I would always like to see in a car... more engine info, like temperatures, revs, oil pressure to name a few would be nice. Other than that, its a great car.:)

Totally agree with you here. Top of the steering wheel on my BMW used to obscure the top of the gauges and yes the novelty HUD on my Prius also wore off after about an hour lol

Renault also have vehicles with gauges placed centrally. I guess one advantage for Toyota is the reduced cost associated with LHD and RHD variants where tooling is concerned
