People who steal from others rarely understand how hard people work to get the car and only be robbed is crazy.

The scary thing about this thread is it sounds like a group of relatively organized criminals have figured out how to get into a Prius by disabling the alarm through the drivers door handle. Also if there were 6 already in a body shop for similar damage, this is not an isolated incident.

There is no way to keep all criminals at bay, forever, but sadly once a flaw or loophole is found in a cars alarm system or locking system this knowledge usually spreads.....putting everyone at risk.

If this becomes a common occurrence, hopefully Toyota will upgrade the alarm and/or door lock, because at this point like the OP about your only choice as an owner who might suffer an incident like this, is to upgrade the alarm system yourself at your own expense.

Up to now, Prius enjoyed the reputation of being a vehicle unpopular with thieves. Sad that it seems to be moving onto the theft and vandalism radar.

Good luck with that... Sexism and racism in the court system limits what who can get away with killing who...

Not to sound naive, but if you've had "daily break-ins" in an "affluent neighborhood" maybe some sort of Neighborhood Watch should be considered? It seems to work pretty well here in NY and we're not carrying, so your Neighborhood Watch would have a little more clout then ours.
If I had a break-in problem on my street- I'd have no problem joining a watch group...

These air bags probably fit more than just the Prius. The thieves have picked Prius because they know how to get in easily and disable the alarm. They may sell them back to body shops, who knows maybe you can get your old air bags back.

I don't blame you for wanting to blow them away, just be careful they might shoot back.

I'm sure body shops who use these hot parts get more profit in the car repair.

Be careful out there, hate to hear you got hurt.

Sorry to hear about your incident. I am curious how they figure out to disable the alarm from the handle (but don't post answer here, we don't need more thieves figuring that out).

I think we need to start a separate Prius owner with guns thread. :p

Maybe it's me, but the thought of an attractive lady who's competent with a gun is kind of interesting :)

Did I think that or say it out loud?

OP: I've had my interiors apart many times for rattle issues and I know where all the airbags are. So did they take the steering wheel airbag? Most of the others would be too tricky to mess with to get out, but if the thieves were Prius-savvy... Did they smash any glass?

I think its weird someone wants to steal airbags out of a prius. With all your gun laws and so many people carring them I thought that would lower crime? Guess guns don't change much do they? Never owned a gun and have never lived in a state where you can kill people for most reasons, and never had my car broke into.... Interesting

NC Law protects home owners defending their property including vehicles. Though like you, I have never owned a gun and never had my car broken into.

Gun is a sensitive subject of discussion right now. It's like another religion, political discussion. Should be added to the 2 things never to discuss in public. Religion, Politics, Guns.

    An excellent point, my friend.
I suspect the OP assumed that everyone would be of the same mind on this.
