North Carolina law does not allow the use of deadly force solely to protect property, or to prevent theft, or to regain stolen property. An owner can defend his or her property using reasonable and necessary force, but not deadly force. A property owner cannot shoot a thief before, during, or after a theft. The same rule prohibits deadly force to prevent injury or vandalism to property.

I must say that the moral fabric of our nation is gone. That a attractive girl from Texas works hard to educate herself, purchase a car, and get an apartment only to have her car parts stolen. What have we become? Maybe it is time to go back to Europe.

    ...where this doesn't happen?
Perhaps the thieves didn't realize that she was attractive.

In case you haven't heard, things are falling apart on the other side of the pond everyday.... It's the result of the fiat money system falling apart. What is stunning to me is that the US stock market is climbing like nobody's business, which can't really be a good thing. IMHO, someone is pumping it up to take the profit for the big fall.

Guns doesn't solve all crime problems. It takes a professional thief seconds to disable an alarm. You can't have your scope zeroed at your car 24/7. I have just pressed the panic button today after I read this post to see what it sounds like for the first time. If I was watching a movie or sleeping, I would not hear or ignore the alarm. Since most car alarm sounds similar, I would research and look for one that has a unique siren, and also has an alarm on the remote if you live in a high crime neighborhood. That way you can come out guns blazing:) Thanks for the heads up, and sorry for your lost.

Found some that has an alert on the remote and can alert your smart phone.

The best aftermarket alarm system out there is Viper. You will hear it from your home. The slightest tap on your vehicle will set off this alarm system. The alarm system ranges from $100-500 depending on what you're looking for. Also it is better to get rid of the manufacturer alarm. OEM alarms are a POS. They don't work when you need it to work.

Sorry, the castle doctrine applies in NC. The legislature added the provision that allows the use of deadly force without the need to retreat while in a place you are legally entitled.

Why am I arguing this? I don't own an effin' gun o_O

I am interested in car alarms, but the gun debate has gone south.

But from what i understand that is to protect yourself. Not to run down the road and gun down people that are damaging property.

Here in Eugene, when thieves are dismantling a car we run outside with hacky-sacks and force them to play. Next we participate in a contra dance and then listen to folk music followed by a consensus decision on if we should really steal.
Tragically this, many times, results in the thieves using their own gun to commit suicide.

I've said it before, threads sometimes take on a life of their own.
But I also sometimes think those become the most interesting threads. So to continue the hijacking.....

    To each their own.

I'm certainly not "Pro-Crime". I have been the victim of similar circumstance. A stolen stereo system taken out of a vehicle. Separate incident a important back-pack taken out of the back of a vehicle.

And there is not only the physical and financial cost, there is also the emotional and psychological reaction. If you are a victim of a damage to a vehicle and physical property stolen or damaged? You've been violated.

Having said all that? Speaking only for myself, I wouldn't want to "kill" somebody for breaking into my vehicle. This is in no way supporting the theft. I simply think vehicle theft, vehicle property damage is NOT a standard high enough to warrant ending someone's life...not even someone currently acting as a criminal.

Those that disagree can call me naive, and I might even agree. But I'd rather lose property or suffer damage than give up my belief in the possibility of human transformation and redemption. You kill someone? There is no room for transformation or redemption.

In the story I write....if you come upon "somebody" breaking into your car? How do I know the full picture, outside of what is happening immediately? Is this a 18, 19 year old kid? Perhaps mislead by others? If I "Blow Him Away"....his life ends, I may negate my personal property loss and damage, but I do so at the cost of a human life. Not the return I want.

Keep in mind, that I'm talking about a vehicle...parked outside a residence. So I'm assuming this situation is NOT a intrusion into ones home. I think one has to be more aggressive defending ones home, as you never know the motivation of one who would illegally enter a residence. But in the case of a vehicle, parked on the street or outside a residence? Seems to me the most you are going to lose, is insured property, and perhaps temporarily some peace of mind. For me personally? I don't want to kill somebody for that level of loss.

But in closing, I'd say, I support gun rights. I support peoples personal right to defend themselves and their property. But for me personally? Before I would consider "blowing somebody away" the level of intrusion and damage would have to be much higher than car damage or even total car theft. My fear would be that I would see something in the eyes of the person I was blowing away...something potentially a lot more valuable than a vehicle.

We all write our own personal stories, and apply our own definition of "Hero". I guess I'd rather find my vehicle stripped to the frame....but NOT of killed anyone, than save my vehicle but killed somebody.

My personal theft of this thread is over....you can now all decide to either let me go in peace or blow me away.

    OK my turn.

I'm in agreement that not everyone should or can be trusted with the responsibility of legal ownership and use of a firearm, of any kind...however...there are laws that govern this, and the choice given by these laws is just that. These laws do not arbitrarily give one the right to "blow away" some stupid kid. They are clearly written and if one does not understand them, there is training and testing available. This is required in a few States just to own, but definitely required in Texas for a "license" to carry concealed. If one breaks these same laws, they are subject to the same punishment as everyone else.

That said, mess with me or mine and I will protect within the law of the jurisdiction I live. That's my choice and right. What others with different "opinions" do is their's, as long as it is within the law of their jurisdiction.

But the bottom line is...the bad guys don't give a crap about the law.

So let the roast begin. :coffee:

    Sorry IDSheriff.
