I'm looking at a used 1.5 yr old prius that has 63,000 miles. what are the disadvantages of having that much miles in such a short time? I'm assuming they would be highway miles.

That's typical mileage for a Taxi cab... As long as it's not a Taxi and your presumption of hiway miles is true, it's the equivalent of far less miles than the odometer would lead you to believe...

Highway miles = more ICE use. City miles = more electric use.

I am at 58,000 miles in just under 2 years. Mine have been trouble-free - the only normal wear item has been the struts and shocks, which is expected.

I would not hesitate to consider this car if the price and condition are appropriate. It does not have enough miles on it for poor maintenance to show its ugly head, IMO.

Get the VIN number and log on to: Toyota Owners Official Web Site: Service Coupons, Owner's Manuals, Service Scheduling And More

You can check the maintenance records if the maintenance was reported. Also get a vehicle history report to see if it has been in any accidents.

Try to find out who the previous owner was, if you can call them and talk to them it might be interesting to see why they sold it so soon.

If everything looks OK including the price it might be a good car to own.

Well, with 63,000 in a year and a half, it has not spent any significant time idle in the shop.
I do about 30,000 miles a year personally. I would not buy a Prius unless I intended to drive it, it is no cheaper/does not pollute less than any other car when parked.

You've heard the adage that the new 40 year old is yesterday's 20 year old. Well, the same is true with today's automobiles. With proper care and maintenance of a vehicle it's not uncommon to easily go 200K + miles.

It was regularly serviced at a toyota dealership. The a/c compressor was replaced at 18,000 miles under wrranty. It's not a taxi. No accidents according to the carfax. The owner has a 5 yr 125K mile platinum extended warranty from toyota. The price is $15,700, which is almost kbb for private party excellent condition.

The struts and shocks are already worn out at 58,000 miles?

Trim level is important too. Does in have 3-door SKS ? Navigation ? Back up camera ? Leather interior?

I have 105,000 miles on my 2010. Zero issues. So far I have had to replace both headlights and one parking light. Not bad spending $20 on total repairs over all those miles.

I put 305,000 on my last Toyota and it has less than $1,000 in repairs over the life of the car. I had to put my first set of front brakes on at 170,000 miles and never replaced the rear.

Appears to still be a pretty good deal based on my current search here in Iowa/Illinois. A lot of 2010's for sale at dealers around here for $2,000 more than that. Comparable mileage.

They ride fine. I never replaced them on my other car with 305,000 miles either.
