Great point. I remember when I started looking for my second car. That occurred when I went to replace the front tire on my first Corolla. I started to jack up the car and all the jack did was punch a hole in the box beam. Parking the car by the ocean is to be avoided.

    I stand corrected. Update quote:

"Parking the car on the ocean is to be avoided".

But irrelevant to the question of why buy a Prius. Since it is not a financial reason as we pay a premium for the car that does not even break even for 5-7 years, it is to use less oil and to pollute less. Things based on doing a community service and spending our money to deal with US No. 2 national security problem, the $14T costs of 20 years of oil wars, the economic impact of $14T in wasted military spending for oil "security" and $10T in oil import trade deficit, the air and water pollution and resulting global warming.

Will it not sink, if parked on the ocean?
Oh! The reason to avoid it! :D

We originally bought out Prius in 2004 (2005 model) when we lived in Atlanta GA. We have moved to AZ now and work out of the house so we did very few miles a year on the vehicle. We just traded our 05 with about 69,000 miles in on a 2013 Black Cherry Pearl Persona. The main reason is that when we do travel (we do 2 trips a year to California) we want the benefit of the great fuel economy. Now don't get me wrong, if I have to pay anything close to the price I payed for my 05 I would not buy a new Prius but all things being equal for the price I think the Prius is still a good investment.
