I bought a prius back in February, it came with "upgraded speakers" which I soon found out to be BLOWN!

Does anyone have any recommendations for replacements? I love bass and loud music so I cry everytime I step into my car.

i replaced my rear door speakers w/ 7" dayton audio woofers from parts express. then i added a kenwood head unit. when the bass kicks in , the rearview mirror jumps. if that isn't loud enough, you could always add a power amp or a powered sub under the rf seat.
and if your handy, there is a thread from a guy who put 8" subs in his rear doors. i bet that kicks some @$$.
simple minded folks are easily conned into buying crappy speakers; you need to remove your door panels to see what you got.

Any idea what the model number was for those dayton audio woofers? I found Dayton Audio RS180-8 7" Reference Woofer on Amazon for $48. Were the 7" a direct fit or did you have to do some cutting to make them fit, I mean anthing other than drilling out the rivits?

I looked at Crutchfield, but they only had 3 speakers that would fit, and they all required the dreaded adapter plate... I've "upgraded" speakers before in my previous cars and I would like to avoid using an "adapter plate."
I'd want a direct drop-in plug and play type speaker (Solidering is okay).

    What are your thoughts 69shovlhed?

    Dayton Audio RS180-4 7" Reference Woofer 4 Ohm, parts-express.com pn. 295-374
you will need to do some drilling. and they won't fit the front doors-- too deep. there is no "plug n play" speaker that i could find. you could make your own adapters if you wanted something smaller, but this is the only 4 ohm speaker i could find that would fit without cutting the hole any larger. you will need to drill 6 mounting screw holes/ speaker.
tip: go to home depot and buy duct insulation instead of expensive, heavy dynamat. it's 1/8" thick foam w/ glue on one side and foil on the other. works great. i also bought some spray on deadener for inside the door.
no audiophile is gonna be impressed w/ my system, but no econobox bumping along our decrepit hwy system is gonna impress at 70 mph.

If you have the JBL system, you have to be careful with what speakers you put in. The audio power amp is designed around specific speaker impedance. To ignore this will lead to nothing but disaster. In fact one PC'er swapped out speakers and it sounded so bad he went back to OEM Toyota speakers!
If you have a NON JBL system, again, match impedance, and you should come out OK!
The impedance rating is in ohms, and will look like this 6Ω would be a 6 ohm speaker. It is usually printed on the back of the speaker magnet!

    I have a non-JBL prius,
but not sure about GiantPens' Prius.

    is the OEM Non-JBL 4 ohms? aka 4 Ω

(to type the Omega symbol, Ω press and hold the [alt] key then type 234 on the keypad, then release the [alt] key and Ω will appear.)

if you have non jbl, 4Ω will do, especially since you'll want to junk that pathetic oe head unit asap anyway. (Dave, thanks for the tip about how to type Ω.)
that amazon link goes to parts express.

I just cut and paste the symbols....and yes that head unit might as well go!
