By the way I appreciate you pointing this out. No matter how much I learn about writing proper English I never seem to learn enough. What you pointed out was a rule I either forgot or never had read. There's so much rule breaking in this language!

And I'm 44 years old and spent most of my life as a writer and editor of the English language! I even once read the entire AP style book when I was a journalist. Of course my production editor didn't believe me! :) And don't get me started on the futility of proper style for footnotes for academic papers... It's like teaching college kids how to properly drive a covered wagon even though we long ago invented automobiles (aka: hyperlinks).

The funniest part is when someone tells me that they're a writer? I'm like, "You didn't just say that out loud did you? That's kind of an embarrassing thing to say; kinda like telling people that you like to stare at yourself in the mirror for hours on end. I mean some things are better off left unsaid."

I mean I might be someone who at times made a career out of writing, but I'd be foolish to say that's who I am... It's like admitting to a dangerous violent person that you really enjoy being tortured for fun... It's not safe! And if all those aspiring writers out there knew how little their words were read... Well... Like I said, some things are better off left unsaid.

Since when did those in the US speek proper English when even words like tyres are spelt incorrectly. Bonnet and boot are English not hood, and trunk.

    Waiting for the gunfire.;)
