    Hey, y'all.

    How's it going.

I'm installing new speakers all around and an amp (hooked up the amp already).

Well, I pulled the rear door panel on the driver's side to get to the speaker. Figured I'd start there and work my way around the car.

Well, I used the proper bit to unscrew the screws in the speaker bracket...and all they do is turn and turn! I tried all 3 screws and I can't seem to get anywhere.

Anyone else run into this problem?

If I have to damage the screws to get them out, fine by me. I'll replace them.

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

Hey there. Those are called pop rivets. I experience the same confusion when I tried to do my speakers last week. You actually have to drill through the rivots to get them out - do a search on google. I haven't done that myself yet, but will be doing my speakers this weekend.

They are rivets. There is a couple of threads on this... do a quick search, there are even some great pictures.

    Cool!

Hahahaha! Yeah..I was going crazy trying to figure it out. A little too hot in the garage to do it now, but may try when the sun goes down.

Thanks for the info, all...appreciate it!

A dremel will make short work of rivet removal.

It's a high speed cylinder hand drill that can be used for a variety of jobs from drilling to polishing, depending on the job. I used a small rough drill bit that came with the dremel. It loosened up the rivet in 20 seconds and I snipped off the rivet head with end cutting pliers. Btw the end cutting plier was also good for snipping off the old tweeter and mount while saving the bracket. I reemed the two square openings in the back of the bracket so I could mount the new tweeter that just happened to have two holes in the back of its housing. The dremel was used again to sand down some edges on the plastic bracket so the new tweeter would fit just right.

Tried drilling out the rivets and it totally didn't work... I couldn't get it to push through any further - I'm just using a cordless hand drill. THinking either my bit isn't strong enough or my tool isn't powerful enough??

Bought a dremel to try getting the rivets out but still not working. What am I doing wrong?? The hole in the rivet is just getting bigger and bigger but I'm not able to "push it through" - it keeps getting stuck. I think the rivet head? isn't getting through to pop it out.

If the rivet is now loose, bend the side up a little with end cutting pliers. This will allow you to get the pliers over the rivet bolt and snip it in half.
