Hmmm. Is this a good price for this CPO Gen Prius III?

Yeah, I like it a lot too. Its just crazy for me to spend the extra on it. I spend $650 a month currently on my note and gas. A 2011 CPO prius would save me $190 a month. A 2013 Personna would save me closer to $100.

I think I read it makes 98hp versus the standard 80hp.

I wish that were true but "it isn't".

So it does have more HP, but isn't faster. I can believe that, just wonder why they even bothered.

NO, it does not and is not faster. It's all cosmetic.

Why they bothered? Same reason you want black 17" wheels...

It does not have more hp and it is not faster. It just looks a little prettier (but gets slightly poorer fuel economy).

Ooops, I've been confused by toyota's website. They list an 80 hp and 98 hp options. The 80 hp is for the traction motor and the 98 hp is for the gas engine. lol

My why bother comment was refering to making an engine more powerful (98 versus 80) but the car not be any faster.

The Persona model is a well value package. If, navi, softex and 17's rank high on your list, it's def. worth a look.

Yeah, I like the leather-ish seats. The Nav actually isn't a big deal to me because I love google maps on my phone and I planned on installing my own HU anyway just because stock HU's tend to have build in eq's and crossovers that can't be overridden even after I've installed my own speakers (problem I have with my mustang right now). I'll have to check to see if the Prius has that also.

    The rims would work.

Number one for me is that color.

Just read around some more. I can't do a Personna. I can't justify spending the extra $2500 versus a Prius II knowing I'm going to rip out the factory Nav and that I'll still probably end up changing out the rims, lol.

I do love that paint, but not for $2k. The interior is nice, but I can live without it.

Plus I need some play money for the suspension mods I'll be making.

Through truecar, I've learned that the one of my local dealers is selling ALL Prius for $2250 under invoice if you bring your own financing. $1250 if you use theirs which is 0% up to 48 and 0.9% for 60. I can get 2.5% for 60 on my own.

I just learned it 10 minutes ago while on the phone with a dealer that called me back after I made my truecar certificate request, lol.

I also just learned that the dealer offers lifetime warranty on the drivetrain (engine and trans) and I can take it to any toyota dealer. Is that heard of?

That depends, do you have to pay extra for that? If so, its not unheard of. If you have to pay extra, its probably not worth it. The drivetrain on the Prius is virtually bulletproof.

Sorry, I should have mentioned that. Its thrown in for free. I guess its not a huge deal since the car is so reliable.

We have a dealer here (a GMC dealer) that gives lifetime drivetrain warranties on all its used cars. Drivetrains have become very reliable on nearly every new vehicle but the Prius is even more exceptional. The engine in a Prius lives a charmed life (very little stress). That's why a used Prius engine can be had for $300-$500. Junkyards can't even find a buyer for them.

Toyota's HSD (Hybrid Synergy Drive) is also virtually bullet proof. The simplistic design utilizes very few moving components (compared to a standard drivetrain). One gearset in the CVT (instead of 5-8 in a normal tranny), no starter, no alternator, electric AC, electric steering, electric water pump (for the ICE), no belts, no parasitic losses from aux systems, regen braking (so efficient you will not replace pads for 100,000 miles or more). Its just amazing how simple the car is and the engineering breakthroughs. If you like to work on/fix a car, the Prius is not for you (so little maintenance). If you like an extremely reliable vehicle that gets exceptional fuel economy, then go with the Prius.

I like working on a car as far as upgrading. I dislike maintenance but do it myself to save money.

I have also considered the Ford Fusion and Cmax hybrids since I get the A plan discount through my father, but I am not comfortable buying their first gen stuff and trying to get 10 years of trouble free life out of it.
