Factory mounted projector (I didn't take of MH1)

MH1 is aligned approximately to the top of the factory projector. Because the factory projector is 3" and the MH1 is 2.5" this is causing the MH1 to be off center when mounted

Andrew from TRS responded to my email. He did the original prototype and is unsure why mine is different.. Do we know if the headlights changed between 2010 and 2012? I don't think there is but wanted to check. Also, would aftermarket lights be different. Mine is factory, but I'm not sure if the prototypes were built off factory or aftermarket.

The headlights are the same for a gen3 Prii's. The only 2 differences are these:

    1) Color of the bezel. No longer available with the lite blue chrome.

    2) The projector has a 2nd step in the cutoff but it uses the exact same projector

Thanks for posting the pics. The good (bad) news is that your bracket looks just like mine. I have been going back and forth with TRS all week. I even got Wick1ert involved as he has the only install that I know of and was the prototype for the bracket. His lights are, for the some reason, the same as mine with the projector at the top. The good news is that this is mainly a cosmetic issue.

The end result of this is that I'm working to help TRS prototype a new bracket that should put the projector closer to the center of the OEM shroud (to the best of my measuring ability). I'm going to double check measurements this weekend and get them to TRS on Monday so they can make a new bracket.

You're welcome. It's my chance to give back to the community! I will say that once you get the nuts to put your headlight in the oven, it isn't too bad. The bracket makes it pretty much bolt and go.

I have been going back and forth on the halos and leds. On one hand, I thought they were overplayed. On the other hand they look really good on Drunkin Master's and SFV's car. I really dig those G lights! Also love how the led's were drilled into Drunkin Master's lights. Once I get the projector centered, it will open up the halo option. It would just be a matter of figuring out how to mount as there really isn't any shroud around the MH1's to mount to.

How about an evil Prius look?

demon eyes. would you put red leds or paint red the shroud? like you said, leds and halos are overdone. but demon eyes are still new. F8L has been tempting me with the demon eyes. but i'm too concerned with ticket issuing california. Sfv and F8L try to convince me that you can overpower the color/redness if you turn on your headlights.

    heres what F8L sent over:

i was thinking 90mm or 110 mm xbs on the outside edge of the oem prius shroud. i didn't want the halo on the lip because the halo would get overshadowed by the hid lights at night. And would you wire to the your parking lights or run them as drl? I'm leaning towards the parking lights since they would always be on. The drl option would not have the issue of too much heat though.

I haven't looked too much into the demon-eye thing, but I think people are mounting an LED into the projector bowl for best effect (could be wrong though). I would have to think the HID's over-power it when they are on as well. Further research would be needed on this route though...

The results are in: 0.315" (8mm) lower is the final measurement. I sent it to TRS and hopefully I'll have a prototype to test soon!

Yes Mason has grown, but nowhere near the rate of change in O.C. I graduated from MVHS in '89 and moved to Cincy in '96. I remember running through the hills in H.S. cross country where the houses mostly ended after you passed Marguerite and Olympiad. Now this area is full of homes. What part of MV are you in?

I'm actually in what I think was the last "Housing" development in Mission Viejo. It's called Painted Trails. heading up El Toro, right past Marguerite and up the hill to the right.

For those of you that have installed the Retrofit Source "Morimoto Retro Quick kit," did the process involved baking the headlights?

    Thank you!

Yes. You need to heat the headlights in the oven at ~265 for about 7 mins until the glue is soft enough to pull apart. Alternatively, you could use a heat gun but the oven is probably easier and more effective. Before I baked it, I removed the screws and all of the soft rubber pieces on the back of the light. It wasn't too big of a deal once I got over the fear.

Once you get the headlight split it is a very simple installation. You unscrew four screws on the factory projector and then screw in the MHI projector/bracket assembly (assuming you pre assembled it). Then you heat the headlight back put to soften the glue and press/clamp back together.

If you order the kit. Make sure you also order a pair of the dust boots (80mm IIRC) to seal out dirt and moisture.

    Duly noted

I take it you did not go for any other shrouds but the original ones, right?

    Is the off mounting resolved?

Yes, you use the original shrouds as they are integrated into the headlight/reflector assembly. I'm going to experiment a bit and may try using the shroud centric rings and maybe the mini-graphite shroud to finish off the gap. These aren't necessary and I'm not sure if they will work or be worth it.

I provided them with the drawings, but I'm still waiting to receive a prototype to test. Hopefully soon!

I want to do this. I am even considering painting. If and when you get a chance to reinstall your retro can you take pics of the opened headlight?

    Check this out
    DIY - Painting Your Headlights - G35Driver

I am probably going to buy a pair of housings out of amazon and work with those. Doing painting or any other good install seems to need a lot of time and patience.

    Thank you for sharing
