Recently up-graded to 2013 prius five after previously owning a 2010,same model. When we first got the car, the map would toggle from day to nite mode with the dimmer thumbwheel to the left of the steering wheel. Recently, we can't get the map light to toggle from day(bright) to night(dimmer) without having to go to the screen, touching "options", then switching from day to night mode manually. Tried "automatic", doesn't seem to do a thing different. Do we have something set wrong? This is getting old real fast---trying to change lighting so as not to be blinded while trying to keep eyes on the road. Help, please !

Sounds like you inadvertently locked the dimmer switch. Try turning it down a bit.

locking the dimmer switch would make the navigation screen stay on Day time running map, even though its at night.

Thanks JimN, but that suggestion is the problem! Unlocking the dimmer switch used to toggle the screen to dim it, but now,no matter if set on day, night, or automatic, it won't change, no matter how much the switch is turned down. The only thing it dims are the dashboard lights!

The only thing I can think of is a problem with your ambient sensor on the dashboard which could prevent it from detecting if its day time or night time.

Deter, please update your data. Having the 2010 V listed is confusing. I'd let the dealer handle it. At least they won't be able to say "can't reproduce the problem".

I did update my data on the profile page. Don't no why it's not showing the new info. The headlights are on "auto" and no problem with them coming on at dusk or turning off during the daylight. Wouldn't that be the case if the sensor was faulty ? And yes, I will check with my dealer, but that's 60 miles and time off work. Just thought someone else might have experienced the same issue and could tell me I just had some setting wrong.
