Checked the Prius in for a rattle and a Sr. tech rode along. He acknowledged hearing the sound. I saw them driving the car around several times working on the rattle. It went through a 15k service also and was declared done after about 3 hours.

Work order said they found an under vehicle heatshield loose causing rattle. Tightened, test drove, all good. OK. I don't doubt that. Test drove it after pick up, pretty sure still heard it, but having been at dealer for hours, went home.

Rattle is still the same. Gangly kind of rattle sound, sure doesn't seem from the dash, hard to tell where from, but pretty consistent under light acceleration with gas engine.

    This could be a PITA.

could be many things......i found a lot of road debris...stones..etc staying around under plastic shields under car

if you slap some of plastic with your hand you be amazed at amount of stuff that will fall

rattles can appear anywhere anytime in a car...better off finding them yourself as going to dealer will be a PITA all the time

phone chargers pens ..sunglasses can all bounce around causing rattles.....

Can't fix a rattle if you can't make it do it. I know this: After getting out of the car the other day, I shut the door and heard a loud rattle at the L/R wheel. Sounded like tin ware of some sorts. I kick the tire and could hear the rattle distinctly. Come to find out it was the brake rotor shield. Kicked it one more time and bingo... No more rattle. Guess it was just a piece of debris stuck behind the shield. You just never know.

It's been occuring since about 8k miles and the car is about 12,400 miles now. I'll put on my work clothes and see if I can come up with anything. It's been a consistent sound, coming from the same place. Comes on when the gas engine fires with light throttle, then goes away after some seconds. Does not occur under heavier throttle. Lol, imagine having to avoid the sound by being a leadfoot which negates the point of the car.

Oh snaps, found a loose fastener / washer holding part of plastic cover right underneath lower front bumper, but several turns and tightening didn't fix thee rattle. Notice scrape on plastic piece. I've touched down a bit out of driveways, but my salesguy really scraped it the day I bought the car. Probably what started loosening this fastener.

anyhoo, still looking although I don't have ramps.

can't tell fastener / washer is loose in photo, but it was.

Wow there are a lot of plastic covers underneath the car and some little ones under the hood. I don't any debris falling out. Hopefully it just goes away but if it gets louder, it will be easier to find. Cars under 3 yr warranty for over year and a half more.

Rattle fixed at Piercey Toyota this morning. They got right on it after check in, focused on several spots, but they were pretty sure hood latch / bar was main culprit, so they lubed it up and adjusted rubber supports for the hood. Thanks Ron :)
