    Hi there, I just bought my first Prius. 2010 with 86000 miles. I'm sure they will pretty much run forever :)

    Toyota 'forgot' to list any Automatic Transmission Fluid changes, I suggest you have one done at 90,000 miles and then every 60,000 miles; that will keep it trouble free forever. Use ATF-WS from Toyota.

    P.S. The dealership also "forgot" to include an owners manual, I'm going to be running up there today to see if I can pick one up.
    Is changing the ATF an easy DIY on the Prius? I know I should search, and I will be doing lots of reading on here, but I thought I might get a quick answer here... thanks again for the help.

    I just called the dealership, they told me ATF-WS is around $9/quart, but it needs to be hooked up to a computer and pumped in. Is that a bunch of B.S.? I've done oil changes, gear oil changes and ATF changes on "regular" cars before...

    Yea, but keep them friendly, never know when you will need them. There's a guide in here for ATF fluid changes and it is super easy.

    Agreed. It is a $90 job at most dealerships that know what they are doing. It's a Prius, not a Tacoma. Make sure they understand that or find another dealership.

    If you and a friend have the right sockets and a 3 foot long funnel, t you just need the 4 quarts of ATF WS and two washers.

    I got it for $14k out the door with a $1K trade in... it was listed at $14,999 +++ I'm ok with it, although I probably could have done a little better.

    I Plasti-Dipped the wheels today. Matte black :) It's a start, right? :)
    And I wouldn't take it to the dealership for oil changes anyway, even if it was free lol.

    At least compared to local prices where I live in Oregon that doesn't seem like a bad deal at all. Good in fact. Assuming clean title and no accidents in its past?

    14K for a 3 year old Prius seems like a pretty good deal. There has been very little, modest tweaks, as far as change in the styling of the GEN 3 since release, so you have a vehicle that pretty much represents the latest incarnation of the standard hatchback Prius.

    As far as a used car goes, I always kind of liked the idea of buying a physically newer vehicle with higher miles at a lower buy in price, as opposed to a older vehicles with less miles, but a higher buy in price. My logic being at least you know that it was working well enough for the previous owner(s) to put 25,000+ miles a year on it.

    And at 86,000 miles you can optimistically expect to be able to put many, many more miles on the vehicle.

    So just enjoy.

    Out of morbid curiosity what did you trade in?
