My friend is having issues with her FOB key. At first it was just extra sensitive. It would go off when it was in her pocket. Now it has gotten to where the alarm goes off when she takes the FOB key out of the slot and shuts the door. She has checked the key and car battery and also the sunglasses holder doesn't have anything in it. I hear that there is a sensor by it. Any ideas?

Not sure what alarm you're referring to.

Please run the test at Weird stuff happening? MPGs dropping? Test The Battery | PriusChat after the car has sat MANY hours or overnight (or you can use a voltmeter). Please tell us the 3 values (not just 1). Don't go changing the battery first until you tell us the values...

If you have HIDs, you can avoid unnecessary cycles on the lights by toggling between off and parking light positions.

Weird stuff can start happening w/a low or bad 12 volt. Don't waste $ on having a dealer "test" the 12 volt (07 Prius Dead - Any Guesses? | PriusChat). If you're on the original 12 volt, it's at end of life now.

Well when she told me the alarm would go off I figured she meant the security alarm like when you would press the panic button. Like I said it isn't my car. I am pretty sure she told me that she either has a new battery or checked it and it was okay.

As for "checked it", I have no idea what "check" was done, but see 07 Prius Dead - Any Guesses? | PriusChat. Patrick Wong is one of our resident repair experts.

A Prius w/low or dead 12 volt will NEVER exhibit symptoms of slow cranking or starter unable to turn the engine because there's no dedicated starter motor and the engine isn't started by the 12 volt.

There is a possibility of a stuck button on the key fob. What happens if she removes its battery?

I will tell her to look at it. If I could test it myself I would, but she and the car is not with me. She just told me that it is a brand new battery though.

I guess her son messed with it and it's been acting up ever since. Maybe the battery is loose now. The only reason I posted on here is because I googled the symptom of the alarm going off everytime the key leaves the car and I got zip. I figured at least one person with a loose key battery would be experiencing the same thing.
