federal tax credit is UP TO 7500.

that means you might be end up getting less than that.

My friend bought Volt and received 1800 and yes. She does live in CA.

You might get whole 7500 if your income meets certain criteria. (less income..)

    SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 ? 2

and Volt is sure has more power in its engine but gas MPG is not great tho...

its rated worse than most cars

    SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 ? 2

Try doing a search at fueleconomy.gov for 2013 cars and you will find that about 15 gasoline cars get better combined mpg ratings than the Volt and about 12 get better highway mpg ratings than the Volt -- out of hundreds of car models.

Many of the car models that get better numbers are either Toyota hybrids (which actually do get better mpg) or Ford hybrids (which get better EPA ratings but not significantly better actual mpg according to reviews and owners).

In fairness, there are considerably less Volts on the road compared to Prius which debuted many years earlier. Maybe in time forums for other vehicles such as the Leaf's and Volts to name just a few will grow as well. Wouldn't it be cool if one day there was a TeslaChat with as many users as PriusChat? :)

    Seriously?

The Volt has about the same interior space as a 3 series BMW (108 sq. ft. versus 109).

The Volt is just 2 sq. ft. less than a mid-size designation using EPA rules.

:) What are ya, a professional care purchaser or is it a weakness? Seems like too many variables in such a short time. Good luck in your decision. Something better is just around the corner...

Does your PiP have the windshield issue? If so, there's an easy way out of it...

    ^ Good Point.

    Hey F8L!
See if you can sell your Pip privately. I'm thinking CL or even this forum.
KBB says you ought to get somewhere around 33 - and it's "probably" in nearly showroom condition.

You have several things working against you though. No tax incentive for your buyer...new Pips aren't selling all that well....you got the A-model, which is an up-optioned Pip. Yaada-Yaada.

I'm thinking that you're going to have to come off some cabbage to make the deal work.
Of course if you try to trade it in...you're going to get skrood.

    Good Luck!

....and YES!!! Please do the "advise and consent" thing with your sweetheart this time!

Just curious, how many of them are in the same size category or smaller?

Your friend should probably have leased so that they could capture more of the $7500 federal tax credit in the lease terms.

F8L, I think the trade in value on your PiPa will be the key financial number.

Check this post concerning PiP values : Craving to trade in my PIP for a Tesla Model S[/URL]

Does California net the trade in value against the purchase price for sales taxes?

I wouldn't do it, unless you are certain that the Volt is so well built that it will never need warranty coverage. All of GM's customers from before the bailout have to apply to the bankruptcy court for warranty coverage. "The New GM" isn't responsible for any of those obligations. IMO, it's only a matter of time before "The New GM" fails and we repeat the vicious cycle, leaving anyone who bought a GM in the interim high and dry.

    I'll call BS.

My folks have not had any issues with warranty claims on the two chevys they drive that were both pre-bailout models.

There is no obvious way to search by size category at fueleconomy.gov but if you search for small, hatchback, and coupe gasoline 2013 model year cars then out of 305 listed cars only 10 have better highway mpg estimates and only 7 have better combined mpg estimates. If you limit the search to 6 cylinders or less there are 253 cars. Limiting it to less than 6 cylinders results in 208 listed cars.

The list contains some near duplicate entries since different trim levels of the same model are listed separately even if they have the same engine size, transmission, and mpg estimates.

Of the 208 3-5 cylinder cars, I'd say about 50 of them are truly unique models.

Don't you have to keep the PiP for three years, or else you forfeit the rebate?

Besides, I can't let you buy a Volt. It's one of those "Friends don't let friends" things.

F8l, there are some restrictions re the CVRP ($1500) you might want consider. From the letter acknowleging receipt of the application: "As a CVRP participant you are required to either own or lease this vehicle for a minimum of 36-months. This vehicle may be resold or returned to the dealer within this period only if given prior approval by the Calfornia Air Resources Board (ARB). Resale of this vehicle for financial gain within the 36 months period is not allowed. If participants violate these requirements, ARB or its designee reserves the right to recoup CVRP funds from the original vehicle purchaser identified on the rebate form and may pursure other remedies available under law".
This could be worse than sleeping on the couch for a week or two.;)

I second and third caution in trying collect state and federal rebates on different cars within a short time. Pay attention to the small print!
