I have my phone connected with bluetooth, and every time I start the car, it starts playing music even though I did not press anything on the audio system or the phone.
I don't have the phone playing anything before I start the car, so why does it start playing the bluetooth audio automatically?

It's a bug in the Entune software. Many have complained here about it, but if enough owners report it to Toyota perhaps they'll do something about it in a future release.

The more I learn about Entune, the less useful it gets :(

Is this problem only with certain phones? Has never happened with my Samsung GS3.

When a phone connects on Handsfree, depending on phone it will try to connect on Bluetooth Audio Streaming. Entune is suppose to auto play when it detects a new audio source, and thus starts playing.
iirc Bluetooth doesn't contain anything in the air that states user is doing it or phone is doing it.

USB is a different issue, it is more system then a dumb old USB thumb device.

Yep, it does it! I have a 2013 Pv5. I reported it to Toyota. Call them at 800-331-4331 and report it! When I called, Toyota acknowledged this is a well-know issue. They stated they are working on it. If you don't call them, they'll think it's not as pervasive or bothersome to Toyota owners as we think it is. Call them! Give them hell about it! Frankly I hate Entune. I wish Toyota would cross-license with Ford Sync. That is a much better product!

If you set your audio source to blue
If you selected Bluetooth as your audio source, it will do what you stated. It's just like playing audio from CD's. If you turn off the car while your CD is playing and come back again to start your car, your CD player automatically turns on and continues to play the part of the music that was last played. To avoid the issue you have stated, go and press the audio button and press a different audio source such as, CD,FM,AM or SAT. Just think about what you were listening before you turn off the car. If you did not turn off your radio upon exiting the car, the radio turns on automatically when you turn on the car.

It's not really a bug! If you have Bluetooth set as sound source it will hunt your phone down and start playing. It does this in my wife's new HyCam, nice car BTW, I set up Entune, and since I have a Iphone I linked it. My wife just has a small basic phone so Entune is virtually worthless to her. Anyway, every time we would go out it would activate my Iphone and start playing, it drove her nutz. All I did to fix it was select XM for her sound source, problem solved!. BTW, I got a new update for Entune yesterday, version 1.9.243.55664.
Well there's the problem right there, 10 digits for a version number, if they over complicate the plumbing that much, no wonder it's all going down the drain!. It notes reason for update, "Bug Fixes" OK,!
You still need a portable WiFi Hotspot in the damn car for it to work effectively, that will be $10+ bucks more a month thank you very much....$120+/yr, for Pandora?
I don't really want to "Jail Break" the Iphone, so... oh well!

The problem is that there is a long delay between starting the car and when music starts playing. Unlike the other audio sources, the Bluetooth radio takes longer to start, then it has to make the connection to the device. So I'll be backing out of my driveway, when all of a sudden the audio screen pops up and partially blocks the backup camera view.

You also say that it starts playing because that's how it was when it turned off. I disagree with this, because I have stopped playback on my phone and Entune will start it back up when reconnected.

It should act more like the audio input source. When I plug my phone into the jack, it doesn't start playing immediately unless I press play on my phone. Entune can establish a Bluetooth connection without starting playback, but it doesn't by default. There should be a setting to change this default behavior.

That's what I found too.. Bluetooth will try to connect if that's where you left off last. That's not so annoying as it seems consistent and predictable.

I'm still trying to get my Pandora to connect consistently. This is via usb too!

Have you tried downloading the Pandora app in your cellphone and do it via Bluetooth?

Yes. I got started with Pandora on Iphone way before I bought the Prius..

Inconsistent results at best with Pandora through BT. Most consistent is Pandora with Entune on Iphone and connect via USB.

Do you like BT to startup just as fast as your FM/CD player?
if BT starts so fast, some other process needs to be delayed right? is it OK to delay Nav until U pull up to the main street and start driving without getting directions for those travelling? what about USB device that is inserted? should it be faster than BT?

I must agree on the audio source comment. maybe read from some where or over heard ppl that a fix for that maybe coming in the next release, just keep bugging the dealers.

For anyone who doesn't want their bluetooth-connected phone to start playing music automatically, go to Setup->Bluetooth->Paired Device List. Select your phone and deactivate music. This worked for me because I don't listen to the music on my phone every day, so I only activate it when I need it. The phone is still paired for phone calls or Entune services such as Pandora. I spend a lot of time listening to CDs or satellite radio, but if you listen to the music on your phone every day then it's going to be much more of a hassle for you to activate and deactivate. It is a temporary work-around though, and my phone never starts playing music now until I want it to.

Why will you have to go through the hassle of deactivating and activating when all you have to do is select the audio source other than Bluetooth? When you want music from your phone, all you have to do is select Bluetooth from your audio button on the lower left and walaaaah! entune plays music from your phone. No activating needed.

Speaking for me, personally, I use the steering wheel mode button to switch from one source to another. I don't want the hassle of having to get my phone out and stop the music on the phone when I pass through Bluetooth mode, which I had to do more than once before I deactivated it. But as I said, I don't listen to the music on the phone that often, so I prefer just having it deactivated until I want it.

This occurs even without Entune, if you have a program source Bluetooth-paired. The system first tries to pair with a BT source. If you prefer the system to default to OTA radio, shut down the source BT radio, which will also tend to save the phone's battery.
