2012 Prius daytime running lights

IMO they are too bright to be ran at night. It's a bit blinding for oncoming traffic.

 

The only way Is to re-wire them

 

You can rewire the DRLs to auto dim when hooked up to a low beam headlight or parking light wire.

Sketched something up quick and dirty:



I'm not an electrical engineer, so I don't know what the resistor value needs to be to get a voltage drop across the DRLs LEDs to achieve a 30 to 50% dimming when the low beam/parking light control wire is activated.

Edit: Some of the ratings on the fuses, relays, and wiring is most likely high for this application. I modified a diagram I already had from my high beam DRL mod which uses 65w 9005 bulbs, so the LED DRLs would use a lot less current/amps.

 

Here in the EU you cannot have the DRL's on, when the head/parking lights are on.
When you turn on the head/parking lights they either dim or are turned off.
That is the case with OEM DRL's as well as with aftermarket DRL's.

I ordered a set of Philips Daylightguide DRL's yesterday.

They dim when you turn on the head/parking lights. Like the DRL 5 and 8 I think....only the DRL 4 doesn't dim, but is switched off.

 

They are way too bright and angled too high to have them on at night.

 

That's why they dim when you (or the "auto on") turn on the lights...and why they are called DRL's

 

so how do i get someone to do this for me on my 2013 prius?

 

I believe I saw a new plug-in the other night that had the LED DRLs on at night with the headlights. Does anyone know if Toyota has enabled this, possibly by dimming or changing the angle? It could have been a mod, but I can't see that many people doing it, but I would like to have it, just like all those Audis, BMWs and others have... still seems silly to have them shut off when I turn the headlights on. Cheaper than adding some fogs to the base plug-in too.

 

Has anyone successfully completed this mod yet?

 

The Philips Daylightguide dim from 6W to 1W when you switch the headlights in.

 

I want my standard DRL to dim like your philips!!!

They are brighter than what they look like on the pic.

What Fong has, is not allowed here.
You can have DRL's or parking/marking lights, but not both at the same time.
When you turn on your headlights, then you can have dimmed DRL's at the same time, that act as parking/marking lights, but you can't have dimmed DRL's and parking/marking lights at the same time.

The dimensions of the Philips DayLightGuides are the same as the Philips DRL 8....
