Is anyone else planning to keep their Prius much longer than usual?

I have been inspired to take up the gauntlet and see if I can squeeze 400k miles out of my new Prius. That is, unless the 2015s offer something spectacular that the 2013 doesn't. Either way, with this car or the next I'm planning to keep this car way past its supposed prime. Is there anyone else out there who is going to do the same?

    I love a challenge!

wow.. you must drive a lot..

I plan to keep it for a while but it's not mileage based.. but more on time.. my average annual is between 12-15.. so it will take me 33 years to get to 400k!

    I kept my pre-Prius Toyota, a 1989 Corolla All-Trac for 20 years, about 330,000 miles.

Wow! Did it still work when you got the Prius? Also, were you able to trade it in?
My dealership has a 2005 gold Prius for sale wit 299,999+ miles..for $5935! I thought it had to be a typo, but I guess not.

I drive about 20-25K miles per year so it will take me16-20 year to hit 400K, though I'll probably take my savings and buy another Prius to use for commuting and the Batmobile will just be the fun/challenge car. And eventually I will outfit it to look like a 1989 Batmobile...lol.

If I continue to commute thru age 87 it will take me 31 years to do that.
Maybe I'll just shoot for 200k.

I always plan to keep my vehicles a long time, and usually do.
I only kept my Honda Fit 3 years, which is not typical.

The only thing that might shorten my current Prius tenure? Would be if advancement in battery technology significantly improves efficiency. But I'll cross that bridge when it comes. I will be watching the Gen 4 release with interest but not with the idea that purchase is immediately inevitable.

I have never traded in any car, someone always needs my old car. It is currently helping a teenager pass driver training, think of it as fully depreciated. I gave it to his older sister when she was unemployed with 3 children under 4 and no husband. (Elko NV values AWD cars)

I bought mine a little over a year ago and planning to keep it at least until I've paid it off, but I will probably keep it longer, until Toyota sells a PiP or equivalent model in my area that gets 20+ miles on EV.

True...good point. If the G4 doesn't get more than 15 MPG more it's probably not worth the extra cash to buy it. Plus, after having a 2010 Prius that I wasn't too happy with I'd probably wait until 2 year after the first release to buy a new one.

I need a PiP that would get at least 35-40 miles on the EV one way. I drive 35 miles each way to work. I would really love to buy an EV that would get 100 miles on one charge.

Plan on keeping the Prius forever. Hoping the replacement HV batteries in the future will be lighter and more efficient. Granted it might go to my kids when the hovercars come out.

I'm certain in 10 years much less 20, a lot will have changed in alliterative fueled cars.

My middle son is getting ready to drive and I'm actually looking for a G1 or G2 (cheap) for him. He will only been driving around town. I have talked my daughter into getting a Prius C (she wants orange or red). Now , just to convert the oldest (drives Ford Ranger, but he is working from home so the truck hasn't been used in awhile) and the youngest when he drives and away we go!

I typically keep my cars in the 10+ year range. I maintain it like I plan to keep it 10+ years. I currently average about 16k miles a year so that should be 160k+ miles.

The only way I will get another car between now and then is if the EV and battery technology matures to the point that an EV entices me to make an early change.

I have a roughly 20 mile round trip to and from work. I would've bought a PiP last year and got half of my commute in EV mode if they were for sale in Illinois. My prior car died and I needed a replacement so out of state shopping wasn't going to work so I got a 2011 Prius. I would think future PiPs would have a longer EV range in order to be competitive.
