I'm not saying the small trunk doesn't matter. I'm saying it is just another thing to consider among other wants and needs to go into a car buying decision. PHV are still new and have compromises that a person has to make. If you want one that can haul more stuff there is the Prius-PHV. But it doesn't have a true EV mode, and that is only rated for 11 miles. Plus the rear seat may not work for a family on long trips.

PHV are still early adopter to do cost or ability. If you want more out of them, you are going to have to wait for now.

Payback on 40K a year once plugged in a day phev over a similar hybrid never happens:( If you are doing that mileage the odds are you won't own that car more than 5 years, if it gets 15 miles a day ev, even if electricity is free it will save less than $3000 in gas costs over that period.

These sedan phevs are more for someone like my brother, commutes 30 miles a day in heavy traffic in Chicago, wants a locking truck, doesn't need to carry much more than golf clubs in the trunk. If you can't get two sets of golf clubs in the trunk its a deal breaker, but it doesn't need to be a huge trunk.

Yeah the numbers I was quoting are what I could realistically expect to do on electricity - one battery's worth per day.

Now if you have a 20 mile commute and can plug in at work, then that mileage goes up and the payback becomes reasonable. Basically cut in half but still probably 10 years.

I called 3 Honda dealers asking if plugin Accord has arrived .... nooooo
One salesguy said each dealer is to receive one unit and might be another month until arrival.

Guess Honda is planning big sales for this one ......

2014 Honda Accord Plug-in Hybrid Review: Car Reviews

"...Honda lets you choose just when you want to use the electric miles. This is particularly handy to help maximize fuel usage as electric cars are at max efficiency in the city, whereas an internal combustion engine operates best out on the highway. As a result, the Accord plug-in hybrid will let you start your morning commute on the highway operating much in the say way a conventional hybrid would, and then once you reach the congested city streets, you can switch over to electric power"

Got to drive one today... It was awesome. I found one problem that stopped me from taking it immediately. The windshield is made by AGC Automotive and has the SAME refraction problem as my old Plugin Prius. This was a huge disappointment. AGC needs to get its shit straight on the refraction issue.

Honda - cut the battery size, make it non-plugin and get normal trunk.... and witness the miracle - it will sell 5k per month easily.

The only question with the Honda Accord hybrid is... is the EPA mpg rating real, or is it FORD mpg rating?

    Let's hope it's real.

From the last 3 Hondas I've owned (2 Fits & 1 Insight) -- they all exceeded their EPA for me. Anywhere from 3 to 8 mpg. That was the experience of other owners on automotive boards like this one.

All you have to do is look at real world averages on Fuelly compared to similar cars. The new Civic gets over 34 mpg but the Elantra under 30. Honda is conservative on their mpg ratings whereas Hyundai kind of cheats. Same with Ford. I think Toyota is pretty accurate from what I've seen with my Prius.

I'm very curious to see how real world owners do with this car and the regular Accord Hybrid when it comes out.

I saw a brand new one today in the parking lot at my work. It looks a lot nicer in person but still nothing I would buy. I wonder if they bought it because we now have charging stations on site. Hmmm

I'm sold on the new Accord: I like the ergonomics better than Camry and of course much better than Prius. But that's just blowing smoke, cause now is so not the time to switch cars and eat it on resale. Prius is practical, but I can live with a trunk too.

So, we'll see how the Accord hybrid looks and see what else comes along with 4th gen in couple years.

You saw an Accord plugin? Being that it sells like 40 per month in US, that's a miracle.

Heard that. I hope the hybrid wheels are more attractive than plugin wheels.
