Went through one of those express drive through car washes today. Afterwards parked in the vacuum stations and took out some drying cloths to wipe down the car and found that the whole driver's side is scratched. There's a flurry of scratches from the front bumper all the way to the rear bumper! And my car is less than a month old!

I asked the man parked to my right if he had any scratches. None. I asked the lady parked to my left and none. She even said "Looks like you drove through some bushes!"...which I was thinking was possible, but unlikely. So I was thinking there's no way I'm gonna be able to convince the management that my Prius was damaged after the car wash. So I went and told em what happened anyways. They looked at surveillance videos of my car pulling into the car wash to see if there were preexisting scratches, but the videos were so grainy, there was no way the scratches would show up. But I was still thinking it was just gonna be their word against mine.

Luckily for me, the lady parked to my left that said she didn't have any scratches came up to me and showed what she found. Sure enough, her car was just like mine...just not as visible because my car is black. She had a brand new silver Altima and was more pissed than I was lol.

So now the management were more accommodating and said they'd cover the damages. Said they can get it fixed without repainting the car. Which sounds great, but leaves me with some concerns...These scratches don't look like they'll buff out. I know theyre pretty abrasive because even the plastic door pillar pieces are scratched. So I'm not sure how they're not gonna repaint it. The rear quarter panel is what I'm worried about, because whatever they do, I wanna make sure the paint is uniform throughout and I hope they don't polish it down with some compound, bc the paint is brand new.

Anyone with some ideas as to what he was talking about when he said he can get it repaired without painting it?

Post a few Pcs before and after.

Some lady with a Plastic Mud Guard that stuck out scratched the rear of my corner panel. My Prius still had Paper Registration on the windshield. We exchanged Ins info. The Dealer BS buffed it out and it was perfect. Can't tell the difference.

I have a car wash that is brushless in my hood. They also hand wash outside of the machine with pressure washers and cloths for a nominal fee

yea, I would prefer, but I don't know anywhere near me that is touchless. Was thinking about getting a pressure washer at home, but living in an apartment makes it difficult.

I'm just glad that lady had the same issues bc I'm sure I wouldve been S.O.L. if those guys said that their machine didn't cause it.

The scratches are so fine, it won't show up on my smartphone. Actually u cant tell its there until you inspect it from a foot away.

I hope the dealer can buff it out, but I tried rubbing one scratch with a microfiber towel, and no dice. But I guess its not the same as buffing

It will be fine. They got some high speed buffers on a power tool, the right combination of wax and clay, and bam like new !

I wouldn't want a lifetime wash from that place.

Update. The manager referred me to a local body shop. Took it there and body shop guy said that they can buffer it out, but the paint texture will not be uniform. Factory paint has orange peel effect while buffered areas will be smooth gloss. I don't know what to think about this yet.

It sucks but I'm glad management is taking action quickly.

I had the same issue! Mine is in the lower rear quarter panel so not as obvious.

The other choice is to repaint with OEM paint. They can blend it. I chose the Buff, and if it looked horrible I can repaint. The buff worked out. I will say that I tend to wash my car every 2 weeks and wax every 6 months. Perhaps the dirt covers up plenty. But if you are a Car crazy guy you may not be satisfied with the Buff or the Repaint. Most people never notice it. If you look at it every day you will.

Our Prius seems more scratch-prone than most cars I've owned. About on par with our '97 Subaru, sadly.

I don't really care what he's selling. The car wash owner is covering the tab. I just want it to look like the same condition it was in before the damage. The car wash owner works with this body shop and referred me to them, so if there's any upsell or price gouging going on, it's on him:cool:
