how much fuel left in PriusC tank when it shows empty (the last bar blinks and car beeps)

I try not to let mine get that low I usually refill with 2-3 bars left.

 

When you fillup do your stop at the first click off, I know in our Prius after the first
click off you can still nurse in another 2 gallons of gas up to the top of the filler neck
I only have done this a few times, I don't recommend this as it can
damage you carbon filter emission control system, but your true tank capacity is probably around
11 gallons or so...

 

Wow... that's more than the tank is supposed to hold!

 

that is not recommended. damages your fuel pump.

I would trust the gas gauge unless you have previous experience which tells you not to. With two ticks left, you've probably got a good 50 miles at the very least.

 

Yeah. I should of kept going. Filled up 7.4 gal. The first time I had to fill up, I had 19 miles range left with 3 bars to 0 miles and the 2 bars flashing. I think I will keep it on ECO, I have gotten 19 more miles from that tank.

 

Your 4 may be different from my 2 (doubt it, but the possibility exists)... however, I would not trust the "cruising range" unless you know exactly what factors it (the computer) is basing those figures on. If you put 7.4 gallons in, then you still had 2 gallons (at the very least) left in the tank... so unless you are a really, really bad driver you should have had 80 miles left to go before being in danger of hitting empty.

 

That would of put me over 500 miles on a tank. Can't complain

 

Yep, that's what makes this little car so utterly amazing.

I was on the phone this evening with a friend who lives in California and she happened to ask me how my mileage was doing. Since I was driving, I looked at the screen and told her "Well, for the duration of this conversation, I have been getting 74 MPG." She just about choked to death, and then told me that she's lucky if she gets 24 MPG. Yes, I do love this car.

 

On my C4 the "Cruising Range" is the calculated miles until I have 1 segment of fuel left. The cruising range will stop at 1, sometimes for quite a while, until finally I have one segment.

 

Never heard a beep but drove 11 miles yesterday on a blinking light and filled up 8.903 gals

 

If gone 78 miles with the light blinking. I was pushing it to the max a d I had a gas can with me. Never did run out though, I chickened out lol.

 

78miles with 1 bar and still going? Amazing, you must be in EV mode 90% of the time lol!

 

That's not that hard actually. Once the light starts blinking you have somewhere between 1 gallon and 1.5 gallons of gas actually left in the tank. So assuming you are driving at 50mpgs, you would have a range of between 50 and 75 miles left until you are only on the battery. If you get better mpgs you can go farther, and if you use any EV at all you can go even farther.

 

Damn. I chicken out at 2 bars. Guess I should try to go a little farther next time.

 

I have no interest in "pushing the limits" of empty. Heck, I try not to let the tank get below half without filling up. Of course, a lot of the motivation there is gas prices... today it might be $3.51 a gallon, next week it could be $3.75. So if I'm down more than 2 bars and I see a good gas price, I top 'er off. Mind you, this is city driving behavior... when I finally get around to taking a road trip, I'll probably only fill up when I absolutely have to.

 

If I stopped to fill up at half a tank, I would be filling up every 2.5 days. The only reason I don't have to fill up more is because of the weekends... stupid long commute.

 

Ditto, I read that other thread where the guy ran out of gas and killed his battery so I got paranoid.
