Scratches Going Through a Car Wash

    Went back to the shop so they can get a better look in the sun. Turns out the only panels not scratched is the hood and roof! They pretty much have to color sand the whole car!

    Just take a sponge, wet it, now stick it in the dirt and rub all over your car. That's what the high speed brushes do to your car.

    Never use an automatic car wash if you value your paint job, glass, wheels and the rest of your Prius. Instead, use the hand spray wash bays when the temperature is above freezing. Car washes are similar to the drive through at a fast food restaurant. There's a long line in the drive through, but few folks will get out of their cars to go inside.

    as long as you don't use that foam brush that just cleaned the mud and rocks off the 4-wheel drive that was in there a while before you!!!!!!!

    Lesson learned. Will be doing hand wash from now on! The only reason I went thru drive thru wash was bc my apartment landlord doesn't allow us to wash cars, and IIRC, there was an episode of top gear that did a test between drive thru, coin OP, and hand wash. They found that the drive thru did the least damage. Yea, I was silly for listening to those top gear guys.

    Update: had to get insurance involved. After getting a quote from the first body shop, the car wash owner asked me to try a second shop, who said they'd have to repaint the car and quoted over $4k! Obviously the owner didn't approve. So now gonna pay $1k deductible and have State Farm get my deductible back from the Car Wash's insurance co. Hopefully there's no more hiccups.

    Yea I will. It's VERY light scratches so I don't know if they'll show up. But theres a few very small but deep scratch, and even a couple chips that touch up would cover. Ugh the thought of touch up paint on a month old car.

    Btw I'm meeting with a State Farm adjuster Wednesday morning. Will know then what they'll pay for.

    4k on a repaint sounds steep. What are we talking here 2 hours labor plus materials.

    Yea I was thinking the same thing, but was like hey, he referred me here so...

    But even if it was a full color sand and not a repaint, it's definitely not gonna take 2 hours. More like a full day.

    Best of luck with getting your new car repaired. The car wash owner needs to step up, and your insurance company will likely allow you to repair the paint and then they will settle with the car wash.

    Ok we are talking $320 plus materials. Labor rate s about $40 an hour chargeable and time is on the repair book



    I think that guy was just trying to scare you away because he makes no profit on that job. He ties up a paint booth has to pay the wages for the employee. Not much profit in that deal for him. He I
    Is looking for the bigger hits to make his shop profitable

    Yea it was obvious price gouging. I was starting to get irritated at the car wash for sending me to another shop, so I just told him I'll have my insurance handle it instead of wasting my time.
