    Hey guys,

so I recently picked up a used 2010 Prius II. It has an aftermarket dual exhaust made by magnaflow I believe. He thought it would be a cool idea to weld these rectangle exhaust tips onto it >_< (See Picture)

I purchased some round exhaust tips that I was planning on cutting off the rectangular tips and replacing it with. When I took it to the shop this morning, my local muffler shop asks if its a hybrid, and I said yes, and he said welding on it could cause the battery to short O.O

How much truth does this man speak, does anyone with any knowledge know? I'm new to the whole prius scene, but I've picked up so much already from the forum. :D

It is not the battery that is at risk when doing welding on a Prius, it is the electronics. Welding can be done, but only if care is taken to restrict the current flow to the area being welded. If you want to do it safely, drop the exhaust system before modifying it.

Depending on just how stupidly the welding job is done many things can be at risk, depends on the amps where the ground is in relation to the work.....I wouldn't weld on anything that is attached to the Prius. I am with you, drop the exhaust and drag it away clear of the car before striking an arc...this ain't grand dads tractor.. too many wiz bang, high dollar, sensitive electronics on board to risk IMO.

Hmm alright, maybe removing the exhaust first might be the safest route in this case. I just hope there arent some permanent welds the previous owner did.
