Hello everyone, newbie here. Been reading a lot of great stuff already, everybody here seems very knowledgeable!

A quick question about my 2011 prius, the clock runs fast about a minute a day. Meaning if I don't correct it, after a week, it's 7 minutes fast! It's really annoying and I'd like to know how to fix it if anyone could make any suggestions.

    Thanks!

No fix for a fast clock. If less than 36k miles take it to the dealer and let them replace it if it is that fast.

Agreed. Mine gets that far off every six months when I have to change the clock anyway. 1 min a day is too much. Get it fixed.

Mine does the same thing. I like that it is fast because it means that I am never really late. ;) Mine is 7 min. fast right now. I will correct it when I have to when we fall back an hour. I did find it weird for a while there...but it keeps me on my toes!

Has anyone tried adjusting the clock repeatedly to see if it learns the offset, and re-calibrates accordingly?

I think one of dad's old cars -- maybe the Rambler? -- did that back in the old analog days. It is certainly something that could be programmed in, if the designer so desired. Though a much better crystal shouldn't cost more than a dime or two on the supply chain side.

It's a bulk 3rd party vendor clock built with the minimum of parts and a poor oscillator circuit, which determines how fast or slow the clock runs. There is a mod where you add a small variable capacitor and adjust away. The only problem, it is heat sensitive, in cold it runs slower, than when it's hot!
If it's under warranty, tell them you are a Time Lord and simply will not endure an inaccurate clock!
Problem is, what if you get a replacement that runs slow???
It's a button, I just push it. You would think however that on the upper end models with GPS a clock pulse from the GPS could be fed to the car clock to update the car clock every time you start the car.
    Oh wait, that costs money!!!
and a better clock with an ext ref input!

Thanks for the input everybody. Interesting info KK6PD, although going to all the trouble to add a mod to it is probably more trouble than its worth.

Just passed 40K miles, so I'm out of luck with the warranty. I guess I'll just live with it for now. Maybe I'll offset it by a huge amount to force myself to stop relying on it and use my cellphone instead.

It took nearly a year for mine to speed up in the first place, so if it does really bug you, just verify it once a month and adjust as necessary. I don't think it is one of those things that is high on the priority list. At least the clock is running fast. To me, it is more of a problem if it is running slow.
