The pics taken on my phone surprisingly show the scratches pretty well. 95% of the damages you can only see when kneeling right in front of the damage. Hopefully the adjuster is able to see these, as I've heard that some adjusters sometimes don't put in enough time going panel by panel looking for minor scratches. It's a big deal to me, so I'll try to bring it up. Just hope the lighting is adequate when he/she looks at it.

There's actually more damage, such as on the bumpers, but I did not snap a shot of those.

Insist on the inspection being done under good lighting. You need to be there with the adjuster to point out the scratches.

The insurance adjuster has a conflict of interest with you, they are there to "adjust" the size of the claim down. I think most are fairly honest but they often need things pointed out to them.

I had my Bimmer scratched like that but just the rear bumber. Very similar. I went to a Geico authorized shop. The cost was $250, tape and paint including the Clear Coat. Got it back the same day. I was told don't wash the car for a week to allow the paint to set properly.

It will look OK. The oem provides paint codes. Should match up perfectly.

Thanks for the advice and words of encouragement! Went into another shop today for a 3rd opinion. Shop made it sound like I was gonna have a difficult time with adjuster.

Quick question: meeting with my insurance adjuster tomorrow morning. Should I let him know that I plan on getting an adjustment from the car Wash's insurance as well?

Don't wanna be low balled bc there's another ins co. involved.

I think you have to tell the adjuster everything that happened and th car wash admitting to fault.

They will contact the car wash and settle the claim.

    Your insurance won't go up

Ok didn't know that the adjuster is the one that does the contacting. Thought he only gives out estimates.

You know what I mean. Make sure it is in the permanent record of the claim. Let us know how it works out.

Well met with the adjuster, and he said a buff job would do it...which I'm kinda skeptical about because I'm almost sure a color sand is necessary. The estimate came out to be $250 for labor out of my pocket, which isn't a big deal, but I'm not sure if that is enough for the job that the car actually needs. However what is reassuring though, is that he said if there's any scratches that don't buff out, let them him know, and he'll write supplement estimate to cover it. So now is the fun part in looking for shops and getting quotes

On a side note, I brought up the chips on the rear bumper and the adjuster said that it wasn't due to the car wash, but more likely from the factory because of the type of damage and where it's located, and because there's no stress marks or anything around it. He said to take it to the dealer after the buff job is done and to claim warranty.

This is a lot of work and headache for a car that is only a month old. I think I might just treat myself (and the car) after this is all done and look into getting leather interior after all.:p

Update: Took to Horn's Collision Center here locally because they had perfect reviews on yelp. $150 for a full color sand/buff job sounded kinda sketchy, but it was the yelp reviews and really personable owner that won me over. I pick up my car tomorrow @ 5pm.

The car wash's insurance contacted me. They were pretty cool and easy going. Just have to send em state farm's adjustment report and my final repair bill from the shop, and they'll cut me the check for that amount.

Will post pics when I get the car back.

Even though the operators/owners of those drive in self operated spray/brush car washes don't like it, I have done this in the past.

I'll bring my own bucket, my own car wash mit and my own Car Wash Soap. Then I park in the bay, and use their recycled water and sprayer to fill the bucket, spray and perhaps brush the hubcaps and tires. Then I hand wash my vehicle at my own pace using the bucket and my own car wash mit. I then use their sprayer to rinse.

I'm sure they don't like this, but I don't trust those brushes that are available at all. This way I get to use my own materials, get the benefit of a high power sprayer. Since I am paying them for use of their machines at least twice it's not like they aren't making money. And I don't have to worry about getting the hose out at home, and putting it away afterwards. The "Clean Up" of the clean up....seems a lot easier than getting everything out at home.

Don't do this all the time, but once in a while when I feel I want something better or safer than a drive through, but don't feel I have the energy to get everything out and do a full car wash at home.

I might have to look into this just for the pressure washer. I had one, but returned it bc it just wasn't practical in my apt living.

Took my brand new Prius to the car wash & when I got home the antenna was gone. I went back to the car wash hoping I could find it. Turns out the guy had removed it & placed it in the car.
    Boy I was relieved.
Good information about scratches though. Never thought of that. Will have to look for a brushless car wash.

I would suggest going over to here:
Auto Detailing 101 - Auto Geek Online Auto Detailing Forum

Learn how to do your own car the correct way and keep it nice. Never take any black car thru any brush carwash, or an hand car wash, or any touch less type. Learn first. The do. Also it takes 30 days for paints to cure before any type of treatment.
