With the wife's blessing:love:, I've decided I want to go ahead and get leather in the Prius III. I contacted a local upholstery shop and the owner gave me dealer pricing @ $895 cash full interior with door panels/armrest and perforated inserts cut from scratch. He said custom colors wouldn't cost more, but I would need to sign a waiver stating I understand what I'm ordering.

My car is black with black interior panels, dark grey carpet, with black floor mats. I have always considered light grey bc for some reason it looks so plush, but more rescently thinking dark grey or black leather with red stitching (as per Persona styling) to add personality while maintaining factory look. Now I've been more bold and looking at red leather. Not so much the bright red race car look, but more the dark velvety maroon/burgundy look with white stitching. For sure I'm only looking for single tone colors though.

I'd like to find a good compromise look between custom and factory. Let me know what you guys think. Is red overdoing it? I'm gonna set up an appointment to pick out the shading probably sometime this week or next week.

This is a little too red for me, but gives a good idea of how full interior would look:

Taken from Red Leather Seats Prius III Model 3 | PriusChat,
this shade of red was what drew me away from typical black/grey:

You can never go wrong with burgundy with any exterior colors. Burgundy goes with everything.

You have to get what you want.
But my life long philosophy has been unless it is 1968 and you are Adam West in the Batmobile, red interiors should be avoided.
But I'd have to see what you mean by maroon/burgandy look. That could work.

Yea, I'm more likely to go the burgundy route than the red. The shade I was referring to is in the pic in the OP. Maybe a little bit darker, but I'm comfortable with the one shown above.

You should go to BMW and look at their M series leather options. Pretty nice. Also Porsche... Red is good if you have the right color combo. And if you like it, forget everyone else, it's your style...

At least on my computer that second picture the shade is coming across as almost a brownish, Salmon like color. Almost the same shade as our individual moniker profile boxes. Doesn't seem to have much red or burgundy in it.

It's hard to tell with the glare on the window, but I think its a brownish red, more on the red side. Salmon sounds interesting as well.

I like the BMW set up, but red is tricky to work into a black car IMO.

In an altima. It's still a little too red, I'd prefer a softer shade:

I really like that color(of the 2nd pix) looks more like brown/orange though. It reminds me of a leather interior I saw on a white BMW awhile back which I thought contrasted really well. It's all a matter of personal taste. Just take your time & make sure of what u want:) .

So I went to the shop today to look at some samples. They had the brownish/orangish/red that I wanted available, but they advised against it because it apparently fades eventually in the sun. Especially the vinyl seat backing.
Here's a pic, u can kinda see the discoloration. [IMG]
I just played it safe with dark grey leather with light grey perforated inserts/armrest/door panels with a light graphite stitching.
Soft but noticeable contrast. Come to think of it, it's gonna look really factory, but with perforation.

Will drop car off tomorrow and hopefully have pics up the next day.

U can't go wrong w/grey leathers in a black car as it's always a fine match, plus I have a solid grey clazzios in mine & the only regret I have is why I didn't get them sooner. IMO, leather upgrades the interior by making it feel quite luxurious & nice  .

    The wife doesn't want black.

yea wanted a bit of custom look since I'm getting aftermarket, but it's so hard to visualize how itll look unless its on my seats.

This shop is really popular among the local Leaf community. If I'm satisfied with their work, I'll recommend em here as they have slightly lower rates than market.

Got it back and diggin' it. Dropped off @ 8am, it was done @ 3pm same day. Ended up getting the prices wrong. Apparently it was $850 w/o perforated inserts, $950 with. $55 more than i expected. Not sure if i should be disappointed bc thats still less than market price.

The leather feels quality. Over cloth, this is softer, slightly more plush, and noticeably warmer.

The 2 things I am disappointed in is the lack of steering wheel wrap, and that many of the perforated holes aren't punched out all the way. I have to let the sun bake it some more before I can decide on the overall quality.

Looks good. Get the piano black JDM steering wheel. Easy to install and much better than any steering wheel wrap.

I think that looks really good.

Like I said in my original response, people have to do what they want to do.

But I think you made a good choice, because I personally think the best aftermarket upgrades are the ones that add value in either product or performance but also look as close to possible to a factory install.

Had you gotten burgundy or a red or different color, it could look nice as well BUT...in a vehicle where the plastic and the dash are either black or grey it's going to clearly look like an aftermarket install.

What you had done I think looks different enough to be unique, but blends in nice enough to look like it has always been or belonged.

    @electric me
Thanks. At the last minute I agreed to the grey bc I didn't want to make a decision I would regret. It has the subtle factory look which would come in handy should I ever sell the car.
