I know a lot of people are still interested in this and the importance of changing the so called "lifetime" fluid. First a quick history. I of course am the original owner of my 2007 Prius and I am just about to hit 150,000 miles. I previously changed the transmission fluid when I was at 59,000 miles based on many peoples advice here on priuschat back in August of 2009 (yes I keep my record book up to date). That fluid back then was really dark and the magnet was full of debris however I have done my fair share of car maintenance and I have seen much worse before. Also I was thinking much of the darkness and debris on the magnet was likely from being new and breaking in. So I decided the next time I change it I'd extend it out an extra 50% to 90,000 miles on the new oil. So here I am at 149,000+ miles and here are the pictures of the old that came out. I'm way too cheap to bother with a laboratory analysis, but I do believe that based on the color anyway that 60,000 a much more appropriate interval for those of us that live in a cold weather state.

Anyway for anyone that cares what the fluid looks like on a second change with 90,000 miles on the fluid and 149,000 on the ODO here are some attached photos.

Thanks for posting. I can't see any difference between the two containers.
