As we head into this Memorial Day weekend let us give thanks to those who have sacrificed so much in order for us to be free.

Ever so slightly more upbeat, here is one side of a WWI memorial for those who fought from Hampton IA, not just those who died. (My father, two uncles, and an aunt are in the lower right)

I will certainly be giving thanks this weekend for all of the men and women who have helped protect our freedoms.

    Thanks for starting this thread.

Of course we want to honor the dead, but want to focus on the living vets.

One issue is the VA hospitals better give them care.

The main thing I want to say is they served in the World's greatest military force and their unemployment rate is well above the average. :( :( :( Motivated, mature people that often gave it their all in circumstances we civilians will never see. Now they are at the mercy of hiring authorities that are more ruthless with "What have you done yesterday?" than the Taliban or al-Qaeda. Unemployment among post-9/11 veterans still running heavy - U.S. News Why would anyone want to enlist when they see how hard companies make it for our vets to get a civilian job?

    Hire the vet.

    HIRE THE VET.

I agree, but lets keep this thread on track and make it just about remembering those who made the ultimate sacrifice, and honoring those that are still among us. That kind of talk is just gonna invite the resident trolls to come out of hiding.

^ Yes, I got passionate since a couple of friends of mine have served and deserve to be in the civilian workforce.

No, I was not intentionally throwing a firebomb, begging for partisan banter to be a roadside bomb to this thread.

I want to remember all who served, both living and dead

I do agree, if I had the choice I would hire a vet. Most have more of a sense of duty, respect, and work ethic than their civilian counterparts.

My grandfather served in the USCG during WWII, he recently passed last week. He was a great man.

On a lighter subject Ralph Lauren had a huge discount. Picked up 3 shorts, 3 shirts, and a bathing suit for $140.00
