TPMS what the hell, $70 labor sensor serial #

    Well I'm not sure if I correctly used OEM, they are original tires from another prius 2010.

    I may ignore the light, but the "few months" is 6 months.

    If you are just getting tires why are you worried about TPMS?

    I want 8 wheels to be able to change them myself as I always did. But I will have to calculate the cost to go to the garage VS buying 4 wheels and the quickset tool purchase.

    Hi All, I just registered to add my 2 Cents. I am not a Prius owner but these links may help. My back story is that I am looking at running Steel rims in the winter and Alloy in the summer. My daily driver is a 2013 Hyundai Elantra GLS. (yes I am trying to be a Hyper-Miler) My solution is to buy Clone-able Programmable sensors (The part behind the valve stem) one vendor is (oewheelsllc com) It looks like a set of 4 is $164-. I want to be able to change wheel sets in the driveway without resetting anything. Late snow = late wheel change, Early snow = early change, wooo hooo!
    You/I will need to identify two numbers from each wheel sensor(Hex and Decimal). The folks at OEWheel can set up the sensor but they need good information. This information can be found with an expensive reader found at your local tire shop. The tire shop equipment (reader) such as Bartec's (bartecusa com) can read the the sensor, (but the technician needs proper training). And, (The shop must be willing to use it.) A web site to find tire shops with Bartec equipment is (whytpms com)
    And of course an other option is the dealer can read it on the OBDII port (on board diagnostic). This information may be listed on the sensor itself but in my case I need to break down the tire rim to do that.
    One question I have not answered is can I store the tires with the cloned TPMS near where I park the car (I don't want to confuse the cars sensor reader with a second set of identical TPMS sensors). but this is enough information for now.

    $70 is too much. I had 2 quotes of $20 to read and reset ECU. That would cost you $40 year with 2 change outs per year. Or your could use the Quickset. It would take about 3 1/2 years to get back your investment. But you would have a tool at the end and all further changes are free.
    You could swap out for Shrader EZ valves. But you would loose the $ you spent on TPMS already so that doesn't make sense in your situation.

    Those sensors inside the tires they run on a battery. The battery can not be replaced the entire sensor needs to be changed, is it correct?
    How long does the battery last?

    Yup, I'm fine paying the $7 or $8 per tire America's Tire charged me to "recondition" my TPMS when I changed tires. But when it breaks altogether, I'm telling my wife, she can live with or I can rip the bulb out from behind the dash. I can monitor tire pressure without nanny software.

    I was just told by America's Tire (Discount Tire) that they will swap out my snow tires and back again for free along with programming my ECU each season. I asked again twice because I wasn't sure I heard right. This may very well be a local deal so YMMV but it doesn't hurt to ask. I bought one set of tires and rims from America's but not the other.

    Our dealership does that for tires and TPMS they mount and install. Nice customer continuity gesture.
