I just got a Samung Galaxy S4 to replace my iphone4. Quite a slick phone but I haven't been able to get the contacts list to sink to my 2013 Level 3 Prius.

I have successfully pair the bluetooth and I can play music via bluetooth.

Has anyone else tried syncing this phone to the Prius?

Does iPod connectivity not work with Samsung or other Android phones? I am assuming that it doesn't, or Toyota would name this feature "MP3" or something similar instead of iPod. I guess Bluetooth connectivity does everything iPod cable does, so this is rather a moot point. I do have iPhone and it works with Prius without any issues.

Not sure if this helps, but I have a Galaxy S3 and mine syncs up just fine in my wife's new Prius (two).

I also have a S4 and I don't see contacts either. Didn't know you could sync contacts.

Hrm, keep us informed on this. I am looking at upgrading my worthless Samsung Charge for this phone next month and would hate to lose my ability to have contact list in the car

With some previous phones I had to find hidden in a menu in the phone, the command to send the contact list. The car will have a menu item to download (from the phone) the contact list.
I think my Galaxy S (Google S) did it on its' own.

When you connect a Samsumg phone it does not say Ipod but simply USB. USB might be a bit better audio quality than bluetooth, but I can't really hear the difference. However, you do have more control of the phone music library over USB than Bluetooth.

I have Samsung S III and it syncs contacts no problem with my 2013 Prius 3. The Samsung won't connect for music with my wife's 2012 Prius V 3 which is curious. I am not ready for S IV yet.

So I used the phone book option while parked and saw that my contacts were there. Is there a reason why they don't show up in recent calls? It only shows just numbers no names.

Have you checked for a firmware update for the S4? I just receive mine, and it worked perfectly AFTER I initiated the firmware update.

I also switched from a jailbroken iPhone 4 to the Galaxy S4 (32GB). My USB worked fine for 3-4 days and then stopped working altogether. I'm going to start disabling some apps/tweaks to see if something is preventing it from working. I did get it to initially sync contacts. By any chance did you install one of the application locking tweaks? I installed App Protector as well as AVG AV. If it's something I added to the phone, those are going to be my first suspects.

Just to update, I am able to sync my address book without any issues, but it's over bluetooth (I think). I get no audio functions on USB. I get an error that says "Read error occured. This entire device can not be played." (and yes, "occurred" is spelled "occured" in the message). It then gives me a "confirm" button. I'm going to call Toyota about it tomorrow.

I was going to buy an S4 tomorrow. Thanks for letting me know of the problem. Guess I'll wait till it's resolved.

Somehow I eventually got the address book working. I think it had something to do with needing to hit an OK on the phone during the sync process. The OK box doesn't pop up on the lock screen and was only viewable when I pulled down the small alert bar at the top of the GS4's screen.

I still haven't really got music via bluetooth working correctly yet. All types of weird stuff is going on.

It really seems that the Prius works better with the iphone than the Galaxy. But I like the 5" big screen so I am going to keep the S4 and just screw around with it until I have things figured out.

Please be advised. I am using an S4 with no problems. Just had to refresh my address book via Entune. Make sure you're paired to it for music and not your iPOD... via the setup - bluetooth on your Toyota. Also, check the box and allow access via your phone. Mine asked to allow access for messages, then I could pull them up via Entune, as well.

There was a problem with early S3s related to the lock screen. You should always have the phone unlocked when you initially pair with the Prius, as some Bluetooth functions may be blocked by the lock. There are also settings to ensure the phone syncs even when locked. (Try Phone-Call Settings-Accessory settings for call-Outgoing call conditions, and make sure it's set to "Even when device locked.")

That may be at least part of the issue for you. Agree that you also want to ensure that under Bluetooth, you have both checkboxes for media audio and phone audio checked. (You need to be connected to the Prius via BT to confirm the checkboxes, as it will try to connect but not change the profile checkbox if you're not.)

I think the phone and contacts sync are working okay now.

The media is still a problem. I am trying to get it to work the way I used to use an iphone. I listen to a lot of podcasts. With the itunes I used to "subscribe" to a lot of different podcasts. Once a day I would plug the iphone into my computer running itunes and the podcasts would sync from the computer's itunes to the iphone. And I had it set up so that I only sync'd the latest five of each subscribed podcasts. When I got in my Prius I would pick up the iphone and browse to the podcast section, browse through the list of subscribed podcast and then from the list select an episode to listen to.

I haven't figured out how to do this with Android and specifically with a Samsung and att branded phone. The samsung music app wants to start up every time I get in the car. And it wants to start up in some mode where it is advertising a band or song or something and it starts playing 20 seconds of some crappy song. Reading a bit about this it seems that the samsung music player is the default player, even though I have a few other podcasts apps installed and a few other music player apps installed. There doesn't seem to be a way to remove the samsung music player or change it from being the default on this samsung phone.... unless I root the device, which I might do at some point but I am a little reluctant to do that yet.

I use my iPAD for music, so I am not 100% sure... But, I believe that if you go under the apps menu, you cannot remove, but can DISABLE the Samsung Music Player. Please try that.
