What additives are in Costco's gas?

I know the major oil companies put some kind of additive in their gas to keep the fuel injectors clean, etc. I also know that the independent gas stations purchase their gas from these major oil companies, but mostly, that gas won't contain the additives, thus their purchase price will be lower.

My question is whether any additives are in Costco's gas? I just had my 40K miles maintenance done, and they said my fuel injectors (or something like that) were a little dirty and would cost about $250 to clean them up. Why are my fuel injectors dirty? I use (almost exclusively) Costco gas. But then I thought maybe Costco gas doesn't have the additives that the major oil companies use.

I purchased some of that Chevron additive stuff and put that into my gas tank. But, if I have to do that, maybe I should be just buying my gas at the local Chevron station.

A long time ago, we talked about this, but I don't see anything current. So, I decided to do another post and maybe can get some current information. If it gets bad, I'll have my friend do the clean up for a whole lot less than $250. But hopefully the stuff I'm adding to the gas will do its job.

    Thanks.

I doubt if anyone would be able to tell you. Places like Costco get their fuels from different suppliers, depending on who they have a contract with at the time.

IF your injectors are actually dirty....check out TC-W3 as a very cheap and effective way to clean your fuel system. I have been running it in several different vehicles that totals over 100K over the last 4 years.

did they just pull the injectors and said, "oh it looks a LITTLE dirty" or did they actually flow benched it?

Thank you for the link. It was very informative.

It reminds me of MTBE and how it was so good for us that we need to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars upgrading refineries to include it in California gas. Then, woops, it's not good after all. Let's spend thousands of dollars to put it back the way it was. Meanwhile, we pay more for gas than any other state except maybe Hawaii.

There is no Costco in my area, but Sams Club sells discounted gasoline. A few times I used their gas, it was low quality/high sulfur. IMHO, there is a reason why their gas is cheaper.

The Costco where I get my gas says they have the same additives as name-brand gas (maybe they mean the ones they're required to have). I've filled up there all but maybe 3-4 times in the year I've owned my Prius. I haven't noticed any mileage issues using it but I've only got ~7K miles on my car.

That was my first thought, too. So I declined them cleaning/fixing or otherwise doing much of anything to my car except for the general maintenance.

I've got a guy who can do whatever is necessary. The funny part is that he'll way undercharge me, and I tell him to charge more, and we end up arguing and then settle at a price where both of us feel good about the transaction. It's kind of the opposite argument you'd have with a dealer.

And thanks for the link. I'm still not sure about whether they use the same additives as say, Chevron, but at least they have to have something in the gas. But, like the older post said, put some of that Chevron additive stuff in the tank once in awhile. I'll do that anyway and see what happens on my next maintenance visit.

That's what I've been reading. So I guess I do my preventive maintenance, or at least as much as I can do, and hope the injectors don't get completely clogged.

    Thanks.

Thanks for the tip. I don't think I've ever heard of that one. I'll first run through that Chevron additive stuff I bought at Costco. Then probably try this stuff out. Personally, I think I'm barking up the wrong tree. But, once I pour all of that crap down the gas tank, it should be clean.

That's a good question, with a "I have no idea" bad answer. I only got a phone call when they were doing the maintenance on my car and said the injrectors were a little dirty and they'll charge a boatload of money to clean them up. Personally, what I think happened is that they saw that this was my 40K mile maintenance, and they normally check the injectors at 30K miles [and I assume tell you at the 30K mile maintenance that your fuel injectors are dirty], and figured they were late in telling me to clean the fuel injectors. I like my service contact, but I take all "issues" they advise me of with a grain of salt.

That's another new one on me. Guess I'd better go to my local Autozone and get up to date on these makers.

    Thanks.

But, Costco gets their gas from different companies. So, the additives can't be the same, unless all of the gas companies use the same additives.

I was confused before, and confused now.

    I'll keep reading. Thanks.

That's what I'm going with for now. But I am adding some stuff to my tank.

If in a few months, maybe a year, you hear me squaking about needing to replace my fuel injectors, you'll all know why.

Thanks everybody for the respsonses. Something that caused me to be alarmed was that a few months ago, my girlfriend was having issues with a clogged fuel injector on her Mercedez. Her car is a few years older than mine, but she, too, uses Costco gas almost exclusively.

No, it's can't be and you are lying. We just heard Costco gas is as good as it can be!
