When I read the original MT article that is so often referenced, I hoped they were wrong about Toyota radically changing the wedge shape and the test mule seems to bear out that the changes are incremental as opposed to dramatic. The Prius's general shape DEFINES HYBRID in the public consciousness and Toyota would be CRAZY to abandon that.

I like what I'm seeing so far, I'd welcome a more CT200h-like dash layout as well. I'd also like to see some of the extra rear seat space/adjustability of the Prius v make it's way into the hatchback if there is room.

They ditched it because everyone complained about how much it sucks. ;)

In all seriousness, it's probably either not ready yet or this is just a test mule w/an interior that won't even resemble what the next gen Prius interior will have, as it looks so much like the CT's, w/round gauges w/needles and all.

It still has to keep a Prius Hybrid look.

I think that's for the ejector seat.

Why must this be the next generation Prius? I found the following excerpt from another PC thread interesting:

DUBNER: Actually no. So that’s the Google car, that a lot of people have seen pictures of. So Carnegie Mellon is developing this car for General Motors, so this was a Cadillac SUV. And their mission is to build a driverless car that a) doesn’t look like a robot; and b) is relatively affordable. So all the cameras and sensors and radars are embedded in the bumpers and elsewhere. It looks pretty much like a stock car unless you open the spare-tire compartment, that’s where all the computers are. And then there’s also a big red “kill” button on the dashboard.

    Deja Vu.

Ok, we don't have a good picture of the interior, but I doubt it's a self driving car, why? Because testing a self driving car would include a lot of LCD screens, showing data from LADAR and cameras. Speaking of LADAR, no mather what there, should be a bulge on the top, there is no other way.

I think this is a drive train test and they just made a shape around it from the bits that were available, some bits may be a production version and some are just improvised, 2015 is just too far away to have a production shell driving around.

Actually, I completely agree with GasperG .... I do not put much confidence in the exterior or interior test mule images as a predictor of the next generation Prius. No manufacturer is going to spend the enormous amount of money in retooling cost for a one of a kind design for the purpose of a test mule.

Figured this should have its own thread. Looks like the design is in the similar prius tradition. I am curious about the interior. It looks like for the test car they put in a lexus CT interior.

Roof looks completely different, side windows, mirrors now window-mounted instead of door-mounted, muffler now mounted transversely, etc.....

And that makes it "completely" different. Lol. The basic shape is exactly the same. The basic shape is what everybody hates and, personally, is what I wouldn't mind them changing for once.

    See?
