This picture is the engine air filter; not the cabin filter that my post was about!

I think I paid about $14 per OE filter when I last ordered from one of those Toyota part sites. That's cheaper than most premium aftermarket options.

Also, the air filter does not need to be changed very often. Mine has over 35,000 miles on it and is only lightly soiled.

$16 plus shipping at one site. Just got my Purolator last night and I will check them both.

So it looks like around $21-25 for the real deal shipped. I will most likely ask my dealer for a price.

Also I found some cheaper ones on E-bay. The Purolator is lighter and thinner but my MPG went up 1-2 MPG. The OEM looked clean until I spread the pleats and took a very close look. 14K on the old filter.

So my next project is to replace the cabin filter. Do you still go through the bottom glove box by removing the door cables and then???????????????

I'll go cheap on the cabin air filter, OEM on the engine air filter, but that's just me...

So, you changed your engine air filter at 14K miles and got a 1-2 MPG increase!

Both of those numbers are.... unique...

    I thought you wanted CHEAP?

$7 for a carbon cabin filter on e-bay! $10 for a cheap engine air filter. Should get both this week. The Puralator I bought at Amazon does not look like it is worth $14 to me ($5).

My toyota dealer runs monthly specials on parts: got 25% off MSRP (must buy 2 engine filters). So got one for prius (MSRP $18, pd $13.50), one for sienna ($22 list, $16.50) that was due for engine filter change. No shipping. No taxes in my state.

Sign up at your local dealers (more than one if you can)...maybe you can catch one of these sales coupons.

IDK, at these prices, why not buy genuine parts ($13.50 vs. $10.67 on ebay, posting above)?

I got the Gold one a few weeks ago. Works like a charm, and I just got 4 500+ mile tanks in a row after installing it. And fully loaded, and at Interstate speeds, and with the air on. I'm pretty happy with it.

    Wow!
A new style air filter got you +500 mile tanks?
I thought only driving slow did that...
How much fuel did the car take after these 500 mi. tanks? (How close were you from walking?)
You could prove this if you were on fuelly.

    Gals. Bought = 9.6
    Price = $3.799 / US Gal.

These are vacation miles. Normal mileage for me is terrible, since I drive less than 5 minutes to work, which sucks the averages way down to low 40's at best in the summer.

Most other vacation mileage stats have been in the mid to high 40 mpg's. I was beyond surprised I could keep this going for more than one tank and especially since we were fully loaded, drove at speed limits on interstates and with the air on the whole time.

Hmm, not doubting you but the Prius motor is small and low compression so the air flow rate should be low. I didn't think a lightly loaded filter will create much of a pressure drop.

I waited 4 years to change the thing, which was, apparently, too long. ;-)
