No offense but cwerdna is not the one with the BMW vs Prius. I think your comment should be directed to "hillcity", the original poster.

Either way, this thread died two pages ago. ;)

So, after all this was a conclusion reached? And of course by posting a pink smiley I'm in no way making any assertions what so ever. :ROFLMAO:

I too think the Prius is ugly. After doing my research and seeing all the gas savings, they seamed less ugly to me. Once I saw the C I was sold, it's actually cute!

The Prius is a larger car. Not comparable.

Turn up the radio to drown out the racing engine, and let her do the stop light gran prix. After she dusts a couple of SUVs at 40 mpg... Or, fold down the seats, and put a bicycle, or something else bulky in there. Either one should sell her over a BMW.

So glad you pointed that out! The Prius looks larger than it is. But, it is still a small car.

The Prius has more than 3" greater knee room in the back seat. I'd say that's significant, and is what I look at when judging the size of the interior of a car.

I think that you would be wise to steer clear of used German cars - the likelihood that you will need repairs is high and everything on them is expensive.

Could you find some common ground in a different Japanese car? If you are looking for top quality, reliability and resale along with better mileage than you currently get you can pick just about any Toyota or Honda car and come out ahead. You could also look at Nissan or Mazda as well - not quite as strong as Honda or Toyota but they build very good cars. For $20k or under there are a huge number of options, both new and used.

You do not say what you need in terms of size, but the 2 cars that I really like and would look at are the Fit and the Mazda 3. If you are OK with older styling and stodgy I bet you could get a great deal on a Corolla as they just announced the new version that will go on sale in the Fall. It is a bit long in the tooth, but is also a solid, dependable car that will last.

    I agree 100%.

I owned a BMW, and the older it got the maintenance and repairs were a huge expense. Your much better off with a Toyota, Honda, Nissan or Mazda.

    He is long gone.

What better way to rile up the Prius community than say the wifey wants to hose up a Prius deal :)

Looks aside and regardless of OP..

I was just in Socal and Prius are definitely not too popular down there as compared to Norcal. I can and can't see why though.

The congestion down there make it a perfect place for it.

The aggressive driving does not make it a safe place for it... a lot of drivers race bumper to bumper! And when traffic opens up, they put the pedal to the metal. I don't get it really but that's how they drive.

When I moved up to Norcal from Socal back in 1995, I was clearly one of the more aggressive people on the road. I mellowed pretty quickly and HATE - ABSOLUTELY HATE - returning to L.A. because of the 18 hour/day traffic around UCLA on the I-405 and the nucking futz drivers that change lanes just for the sake of cutting you off. There is one similarity to Norcal - their turn signals are also always broken.
