And I thought Justin was crazy for driving around in circles at the airport for 7 hours. You outcrazied him.

 

I was more ambitious the first day. It was overcast and I thought I'd better take advantage of the slightly cooler temp.

Was this 99.99 mpg/+500 mile tank achieved by repeatedly drive over the same route over and over again for +10 hours straight per day?

 

I still say the C's should have their own list, they have their own Prius C Fuel Economy forum, they are best pitted against other C's for friendly competition, and not their heavier 3rd gen Prii cousins.

 

Walter, 6/15 and 6/16. Start, stop and all driving in Killeen, TX. Two different filling stations for the 2 fill-ups (initial and last). Two routes driven over and over again. In fact, my intimate familiarity with these two routes is very important and a key factor in achieving these numbers.

Why not have separate lists for each generation/model, then a combined one?

 

Yeah 100+ MPG and you only get 86 of 100 on the eco screen? Obviously the eco score formula needs adjustment.

So F8L, do you post it as 99.9+, 100+, or just go to calculated MPG when it is above 100?

 

Reported L/100km converted to mpg would probably be best for values over 99.9 mpg.

I agree - knowing your route is really important factor in getting high fuel efficiency - it helps you predict how traffic will be behave. However, doing +250 miles in one driving trip by repeating one route over and over again takes quite a bit of staminia - especially if the temperature gets over 85 F degrees. It was a good call to do it now - if you waited any longer - the Texas Summer time heat would make this fuel efficiency run much more problematic. BTW: Did you have any traffic lights or stop signs to deal with on either of your two routes? If so- did you drive when the traffic lights were turned off or did you do it the old fashion way and synch yourself with the traffic lights?

ufourya's FE run suggests a point I have made before - the only thing holding back the Prius C from dominating hybrid fuel efficiency records ( on Priuschat, Cleanmpg, and Fuelly) are the Prius C drivers themselves. By dominate - I don't mean just Prius Liftbacks - I mean every single mass production hybrid car on this planet. I don't think that most people realize how finely tuned the Prius C is .

I think Prius Liftback owners - as first adopter types - tend to be a bit more dedicated and maybe a bit more curious about the inner potential of the Prius tech. ISTM Prius C drivers tend to be less likely to be interested in the advance tech and the fuel efficiency potential of their vehicle - they just want to drive the car. For now, ufourya seems to me to be more of an exception to that rule.

I believe your Scangauge should be able to display beyond 99.9 mpg.

You are correct about the Scangauge, but I haven't utilized it to calculate MPG since the computer and Fuelly are handier for me. There is an instantaneous readout that I found useful.

 

At this point, I think it should be posted as 99.9 as there is photo proof of this. I myself am skeptical of the calculated number. If I had been thinking clearly, I would have found the same pump at the same station for a little more certainty. One pump's sensitivity for the auto shutoff may be drastically different. I was so delighted to just reach the 500 mile mark that I went to the nearest station for the fill. If anyone knows some simple foolproof method(s) to more perfectly measure these things. I'm listening.

I am presently in the habit of filling to the first click, although I did try to really fill 'er up on these two. I posted these results at Fuelly and saw the worst result ever, for me, at 37 MPG . This indicates to me that it was a pretty good amount more than the usual first click. In addition, it was a small fill lending more import to any variation from the first click routine. My next fill will be first click. Maybe some of you math whizzes can make something of the whole shebang at that point?

By the way, the ECO screen score is calculated for ONLY the period of time since the last FULL stop, so it means next to nothing over the 500 miles. It could have calculated that 86 over the last 100 feet traveled or less.

One more thing - the fuel contains 'up to 10 % ethanol'.

 

On my most used and most rewarding route (Only4.6 miles, beginning and ending at same spot), there are 2 traffic lights, controlled by sensors, not timed, 4 stop signs, and 2 yield signs. I am not going to tell you that I did not roll through a sign or two. There is good visibility.
