I agree. It took me awhile to figure it out myself. I'm in the process of writing up instructions that I will post after I get my car back from the body shop and can finish up the install.

Well due to the lack of instructions from TRS and the confusing bits and pieces of info on the Internet, I was unable to do the install this weekend. Back to work today it will have to wait for the end of the week. Very frustrating.

Hit me up if you have any specific questions. I have the harness, ballasts and one projector (retroquick retrofit) installed. Stopped when I noticed the retroquick bracket wasn't done right. I Finally received a corrected bracket from them a week ago after a couple of months of back and forth design.

Unfortunately, I cracked up the headlight last Thursday so I need to fix the car first. I'm hoping I can work on it while it's at the body shop:

Sorry to hear that. Best thing you can do is post pictures of the kit. That way we can help you better. I use a morimoto ballast and a xenon supply HID bulb. TRS bulbs has shadow problems and had the canbus unit that was useless. Had to install it with just the ballast and HID bulbs. Why not just use the ballast and the bulbs without the relay? Had no problems with mine without the relay for over a year now.

I have everything ready to go in but I'm back into my work week so now it has to wait until I go on days off again. I don't want to tear into it with the limited time I have and not be able to finish. Need the Prius to get to and from work. I will work on it starting Thursday and take pictures of the process and post them. Thanks for all the replies and suggestions.

is the morimoto kid from TRS the only HID kit that produces the infamous "ground shadow"?

I believe the plug in play kit does. The full retrofit (retroquick) does not.

Yes. Unless they have changed their bulb design lately.

    Yes,

They have changed the design lately. New bulbs are supposed to solve the issue.

Any evidence? They told me when I bought mine over a year ago that there are no issues with their bulbs - ask them specifically about the ground shadow. Daahhhh. Bulbs showed ground shadow. Hopefully, it's been change.

Didnt wanna start a new thread. I have a quick question
I just received my xenon supply HID kit today and about to install it later this week. Is the double sided 3M tape gonna hold the ballast secured in place for 3-4 years with all the heat on the engine bay? I live in SoCaL and it gets really hot sometimes

It should but with all things you should check up on it from time to time. Previous kits I had in my other cars, the 3m tape help up even when mounted upside down underneath headlights

TRS now has Morimoto XB35 (H11B) bulbs available.
According to them- the "B" standard places the ground wire at the 6 o'clock position to eliminate the ground wire shadow in projector systems. I've ordered a set along with their 50 watt ballasts.

If you compare the photos of their standard H11 bulbs to the new XB35 (H11B) bulbs- you will indeed notice the locking tabs have been repositioned.

I installed my moto lights with projectors and no ground shadow. They look great. Only down side is there's about a 10 to 15 second warm up on the HIDs.

My Morimoto 50 watt ballasts and relay kit arrived- the Morimoto XB35 (H11B) bulbs are on backorder.
I installed the 50 watt ballasts and relay kit with my existing Xenon Supply 4.3K HID bulbs till the Morimoto XB35 (H11B) bulbs arrive.

The 50 watt ballasts give much more light with the same HID bulbs I was using with the 35 watt ballasts. They're actually pretty close to the level of the Prius Five/Advanced LED headlights now. Once the Morimoto XB35 (H11B) bulbs arrive- it should be even better!

Having gone through several different bulb sets now and different ballasts- I'd recommend starting off with the 50 watt ballasts and high quality 4.3K bulbs... skip the 35 watt ballasts altogether as they don't really put out that much light even with decent quality bulbs in the Prius projector system.

There was a member that tried both 55w and 35w watts and he mentioned he could hardly tell a difference?

Well you have to compare using the same bulbs with the 35 watt ballasts and the 50 watt ballasts.
I don't know how the other fellow did his comparison- but without changing bulbs- there was a marked increase in light output when going from the 35 watt ballasts to the 50 watt ballasts while using the same already installed HID bulbs that I've had in the PIP for about 6 months now.

Going from a 35 watt output to a 55 watt output is almost a 45% increase in power- you should see a noticeable difference between the two.

This is the first time since getting the PIP last October that I'm happy with the headlight output. I guess having the Five with LED headlights for the previous six months spoiled me.
