    Hello Forum,

Last week I backed out of the garage with the rear hatch open and the garage door open. So I took it to a body shop near by. He said I have 2 options

    1) he can glue it back on for $200

    2) he can replace it with a new one for $700

    My question is....

    1) How do those prices sound?

    2) I though can just replace the pop-in blue thingy (can you tell the level of my technical skill) and pop it back into place instead of gluing it on. I thought I would have to remove the interior panels then replace those brackets and reattach the thing. Is that not true?

    Thank You.....

That sounds high to me. I thought the part was $400 (low quality information alert!).
You can use Mr. Google to see how much the part costs and see if that price is in accordance with what he quoted. If there was other damage that they are fixing, it may be an OK fee. If it is to just replace the spoiler and nothing else...well.

sounds about right. don't know what the clowns above me are using as reference material. but i seriously damaged mine doing the same thing as you and dealer quoted me 600 something dollars to replace and said it couldn't be repaired. i'd ask him about the repair option, see what they are planning on doing.

I think all of us who let the garage door break our cars could be construed as clowns :)
Mine got bitten too but after reading this thread I think I got lucky in that the opener door attachment that holds the door to the screw drive gave before the car's spoiler and popped the manual lever free. Got a couple scratches and now know that the primer under the silver paint is black. A valuable lesson to my son and I since this is our first hatchback. Still have to get touch up paint though.

I did that two of my prius-es. Closing the door while hatch was up ... got away only with scratches to the top of the spoiler, which could be hidden by good old permanent pen (all spoiler is BLACK) ... and the second car was only 5 days new. I couldn't believe the stupidity ...

It will not happen again because the garage got occupied seemingly permanently by my mother-in-law's high valuead junk.

There is a two or three year old thread on this site that shows (with pictures) how to remove and replace the rear spoiler. As I recall it appeared to be a pretty easy job that you could do in a few hours. I am not sure I can find it but if you do a good search, using Google, you might come across it.
