Hey guys, I'm new to Prius Chat, but have read many of your threads here and have thoroughly enjoyed them.

I should have researched more before I had bought my 150k+ mile Prius. Of course, the HV battery failed on me, so I bought a new cell to replace the broken one. Everything starts, and the battery meter looks great, but my Prius still won't start. The car turns on and the AC works, but the engine won't start.

I've Googled and researched a bit, found a thread on here, tried the methods, but my car is still not igniting.
Thanks for the help. I wanted to ask here first before going to the dealer shop.

Make sure the orange switch next to the battery is fully inserted. You should hear a double click indicating positive closure.
I made this mistake myself. Hopefully you did, it's a easy fix, PUSH HARD!!!

Below is how I plugged an unplug the orange disconnect. I can't hear two nor do I think I can push it in any further once the lever is up. The password to the video is gen2prius.

After you swing the handle from 9 o'clock to 12 o'clock, you are trying to push the handle further towards 1 o'clock -- that's wrong. The right move is to push the handle down toward six o'clock like you're giving an injection. I don't know how else to say it. Maybe a wordsmith who knows how to do this will have better instructions.

By the way, the password for this video is: gen2prius. I didn't see it in the post but when I replied to ask for the password, there is was!

You mean to mean that I have to flip the disconnect upside down?

No. I mean that after swinging the handle up to 12 o'clock, stop trying to push past 12 and towards 1. Leave it at 12 and just push down towards six (like you're shortening the handle). No flipping.

You probably didn't realize it but when you first removed the plug, you put your finger through the ring and lifted it slightly before it would swing down to 9 o'clock. You're just doing the reverse of how you removed it. Instead of lifting the ring, you have to press it down.

I was flippin excited when I realized had missed that part of the process and thought for sure the car would start now, but...it didn't start either. Still looks the same. :(

If you're sure the plug is in right, disconnect the 12 volt battery (just the negative will do); then reconnect after five or six minutes. Then make at least two attempts at starting (make 'ready') the car.

Okay, so my car finally decided to turn on once I got into the diagnostic screen to check my 12v battery. I don't really know what happened, so sorry for those who are having this issue. All I did was press the ON button once, pressed and held the DISPLAY button, flipped the lights on 3 times (on/off), browsed through the menu and the 12v battery was fine. After that I figured I try turning the car on while in the menu and it started up. Thanks guys for the initial helps. I really appreciate it.

Great news!! Congrats. I have been following the progress to see where it was going. Glad you got it going. So in review, it was the 12v battery check in the display that suddenly allowed the car to go into Ready mode??

My guess is that the OP did not press hard enough on the brake pedal, when he earlier was having trouble getting the car to become READY.

The OP stated in post #8 that he hadn't been doing the third step in re-installing the orange safety plug. No amount of pressure on the brake pedal would start the car before that plug was in right.

I'm thinking he wasn't shutting down completely between attempts to make 'ready' (after reconnecting the 12 volt battery).

My guess is that re-installing the safety disconnect plug is what corrected his problem.
