Things change very fast these days.

Last season the New England Patriots had two all pro tight ends: Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez. Gronk is really banged up - may never be the same. Hernandez may be locked up for life. - he is facing murder charges of his friend ( Aaron Hernandez of New England Patriots charged with murder - ESPN Boston ) Only 90 minutes after charged, the Patriots cut him and bit the bullet on the $12.5M guaranteed signing bonus. What is scary is he may have been involved in other crimes. Hernandez probed in two drive-by killings last year, sources say - U.S. News

Teams take chances on bad boys all the time - Hernandez had a known history. While the Patriots took the gamble, they definitely don't let locker room cancers stay if they become trouble..."you know we don't fool around, if you can perform and not draw attention to yourself - you have a place, else you are gone..."

Not only did they cut Hernandez immediately, fans are allowed to trade in their #81 jersey for another Patriot player for free. (New England Patriots Offering Exchanges For Some Aaron Hernandez Jerseys Next Weekend – Consumerist) The remaining part of his contract will not be paid and even the part that's guaranteed, the team is not paying - he will have to fight in court for it (although he will win. Pats officially shut off any remaining pay to Hernandez | ProFootballTalk ) He is stricken from the records - Damnatio memoriae - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

At one time, I can imagine the Cowboys being that classy, but definitely not now with a player that had to answer for the DWI killing of his teamate Why the Cowboys support Josh Brent - Dallas Cowboys Blog - ESPN Dallas.

Maybe we see Tim Tebow as a tight end in NE?

strange, most people really thought he had turned his life around. this is a real shock and oddly similar to the post marathon bombing investigation.

Hernandez was a douche from day one w/the Pats- it was easy to see by his actions on the playing field.
He blew a golden opportunity to have a great life as a well paid elite pro athlete- something 99.999% of the population can only dream of. If he's found guilty- hopefully he'll get the max.

I was looking from a distance, but figured he definitely knew what the house rules were and they are non-negotiable.

The Dark Side must have really been consuming him to throw away a future any of us here can only dream of to very likely be locked up for life.

I think there have always been athletes from troubled backgrounds available- but in the past teams passed over them in the draft and they never made it as pro athletes- the one notable exception was the Oakland Raiders of the 60's and 70's.

With the huge $$ rewards for winning teams nowadays- teams are taking chances on players with sketchy pasts. Look at the NBA for a prime example of recent poor hiring practices...

Yeah- well it's a bit self serving too....
Think of how it would look if he's convicted of murder- or even multiple murders- now fade in to a nice wide shot of Gillette Stadium on opening day 2013 with some knuckle-head fans wearing Hernandez jersey's...

Bear with me on this fake news report of a very serious topic.

Arron Hernandez convicted, released on parole behind enemy lines in Afghanistan. The Taliban are suing for peace - the DoD is hailing Hernandez as a real-life Rambo.

    Of course it's a fantasy...

I acknowledge that the braintrust of Kraft and Belichick is focusing on what's good for the Patriots and not necessarily taking the high moral road. But I can't think of another team that is likely to act like chess players and think several moves ahead of how it will play out and anticipate the problems ahead.

When I was young... the Juice was the man... he played for a team that never went to the big game... kinda like another fella on the Lions that was similar, but he was never a criminal.

When OJ killed those two, and got away with it because of great counsel, and stupid jurors, I threw the jersey I used as one of my nightshirts in the trash... the wife at the time said I was fricken stupid and should have sold it... I just didn't want anything to do with him ever again.

If this fella back east did what they are charging him with... I can understand if the team says refund and replace the jerseys...
