If you live in an apartment building you cannot routinely leave hundreds of feet of extension cords lying around outside
Sell the Pip (if you're on the East cost I might be interested), get a regular gen III for three years, buy a sure-to-be-improved 2016 Pip after you move.

One would think that the Toyota dealers would support EV charging. If you live or work near one, maybe they would let you use their outlets for a fee.

  5. I was actually thinking of getting a plug-in myself but my car has to sit away from my apt and in a (not paved) lot with the other cars. Oh well. You can still use the plug-in hybrid like a hybrid. Can you charge it partway?
I think a one-source-fits-all solution is a bad idea anyway. Think about all the trucks and buses...electric alone isn't enough. Hybrids will have to use many sources I bet, like, if there's no plug then there are other ways to get the energy. Whatever.

I have long thought that every dealership should provide fuel for their product line of vehicles. (Not gasoline, you can get that anywhere) I considered buying a Honda civic-natural-gas but discovered that I could never leave my own county while driving it, 'cause there were no filling stations within range. If I could fill up at any Honda dealer I could go anywhere. For the electric car companies a level 1 and a level 2 charger out by the edge of the lot would do it. It would jump start this whole alternative fuel business nicely.

I saw a few videos on youtube about NG cars. The ones that I saw, they were gas cars with conversion kits that allow the drivers to switch back to gasoline (while the car is moving) if they run out of NG. If plan to fill up NG at home, you'll need a special pump for the job.

In American politics free trade is only good when it's forcing American workers to compete with third world wages, and it's very bad when it forces American business to compete with foreign business.

The Toyota dealership in Santa Monica, CA does provide a L2 charger and only for the Plugin Prius.

Quite a few people on plugshare.com are complaining that they cannot charge their leafs at this station because the management has told them it is for Toyota vehicles only.

I for one would NEVER go to a Nissan dealership and ask them if I can charge my Toyota. So, yes a few dealerships around Southern California are allowing us to charge our vehicles.

I spoke to the manager when I plugged in my car one weekend morning asking if it was okay. He said it's for Toyota customers only. Great for me! :)

Some Nissan dealers are doing the same thing. I see it as a win if they let other drivers use there charging station. You have time to kill and will look around the lot. Who knows, it might turn into a sale. Nissan has a better charging infrastructure since most of them have a L2 charging station. You can't say that about a lot of Toyota dealers.

    I have this problem too.
I wonder if there is any incentive for apartment complexes to be more green and offer this option. I would think going forward this would be an attractive feature or benefit for property owners to attract higher end renters.

There can be incentives for new construction, called LEED. I do not believe any building code incentivizes remodels.

I agree with that- it would be a nice little detail to add to a high end property. I don't see it doing much to bring up a place that isn't already considered to be premium real estate though. A fresh coat of paint and some landscaping touch-ups would cost them as much as the wiring work, yet offer broader appeal.

It looks like you can use plugshare.com to find apartment complexes that offer power.

the apartment owners would have to be into it. otherwise, how would they justify it to the audi drivers?

    You own a *2010* PiP?! ;)

Jk, same happened to me when I moved to Downtown LA. I get a chance now and then to plug in at random locations, but not nearly as much as I used to.

And where I live, a generator would probably be stolen :ROFLMAO:. Good luck!
