They were in ambulances in Brisbane up untill a few years ago I was hoping ther might be someone that can give me the conections to the old sat nav and this newer one and it might work The original was Toyota 86841-24020 462100-0462 Denso made in japan.. Hi Russell,

I was going to refer you to this thread since it has your references for the Prius nav unit. You'd still have to get the information about the VDO Dayton units from somewhere to see if there's a way to adapt them. I don't know whether AVC-LAN is a protocol that anybody besides Toyota uses. That would probably be the key question.

Then I noticed it was also your thread....

Hi Russell, I know you would like to use the vdo unit, hope that works out for you. If not, you might want to consider a somewhat newer version of the Toyota unit. The early models were a little troublesome. The next generation player will plug right in to, and work with your system perfectly. You can probably find part numbers on this forum, but the easier way is: big plug must fit exactly, that's your power/vss /audio. the 10 pin plug is video and control, must fit too. The newer units which meet the first two tests will have a newer prod date you can read on the label, and will have an extra plug or two. You don't need these, but you can easily add voice control to the units so equipped... just need a pushbutton switch, mic, and suitable connector. Or, you can probably find a voice control kit sold online, for Japanese market cars I think. If you make your own you can find the connections in toyota techinfo and parts are not critical... e.g., an old celphone car mike will work. An old computer carcass may have usable connectors. The newer units are faster too. If you do this, make sure it comes with correct dvd, your old one may no longer be compatible. My 2001 has a 2004 or -05 and it works nicely. This can also be added to non- nav Prius but its tricky and a pain. Hope this helps.
