No Park Assist in Advance Technology Pkg

Canadian Prius Tech package was $37,000 last year?

 

I don't find myself using the park assist or the LKA... I really love the cruise control though.

 

We still get it in Europe and it even has been improved at least Toyota says that !
The system now guides you by voice,is supposedly faster and doesn´t need any parking lines to identify a parking spot !

 

If that's true, it sounds like they've improved the pre-support system in terms of speed and/or steps required. Skipping the pre-support system though, which is significantly less work and anyone can do on the 2010/11 Fives with ATP, would still make the process over ten times faster.

 

Head is still spinning from reading the brochure. Waiting for the car to arrive from B.C. 2012 Technology package. I think the plasmacluster is in it (at least the one that I sat in had a fancy display upon startup). But I'm still trying to remember what IS in it and what is not.
I couldn't resist. It's less than Pearl cost with a lot more stuff. List at $36080. Of course +++ for lots of stuff like prep and delivery. I did avoid the block heater as the car they're getting didn't have it and I signed a release requesting they not put it in. So there's a $250 saving.
I'm still not sure what will be displayed on the 7.1" Nav screen (didn't take the time to search through it when I was looking).

Calling it "intelligent" park assist is misleading. I have found that the intelligence all comes from the driver and takes more effort orienting the car before park assist is engages and functions properly, than doing the entire park, yourself. if you want to make people hate the Prius, just waste their time trying to park assist while they wait for you to get out of the way. The most intelligent part of park assist is deciding not to use it.

 

I don't normally engage self-park, but skipping the pre-support system can make it relatively fast. Faster than a 80-year-old trying to parallel park.

 

Your experience and mine are different. I can parallel park faster without using self-park than using the technology. I get what you're describing for pre-support, but find that parallel parking the old fashioned way is quicker for me in either of our ATP equipped Gen 3 Prii. I have also determined that it is possible to parallel park in a safe and reasonable-sized space that is smaller than the size that is acceptable to self-park. The backup camera is a wonderful tool in this circumstance.

 

Of course, parallel parking the old fashioned way will always be faster due to the speed by which you can pull into the spot being a limiting factor (go too fast and the system will cancel). I'm just saying it doesn't necessarily have to be done in a slow poke manner. In fact, if I skip the pre-support system, those behind me would never know I'm using self-park as it's fast enough to be considered normal.

 

After now having my 2012 for a few days I am soooooo glad they did away with the parking assist and substituted the HUD. I use that all the time and know I would have only used the parking assist to show off to those interested in seeing the technology. After using the HUD I now know it would have pissed me off to no end if they had kept the parking assist and not offered the HUD on the 2012.

 

I feel SUPER STUPID.

Prior to buying my Prius 5 w/ ATP last Friday, like many things in my life, I did so much research and all. I saw so many YouTube videos of the Prius and all its features, read this forums and others.

After bringing it home, I tried to show off the parallel and backup "parking assist" to my relatives. I couldn't figure out how to do it. I jumped on YouTube and watched those videos again. I opened up the manual, and tried to peruse through it. To no avail, until I found this thread.

I'm so disappointed that parking assist isn't available with the ATP.

I feel like a complete IDIOT.

The OP and I, are we the only ones who found this out the hard way?

Did Toyota ever give an official reason why they don't offer those features anymore?

 

They added HUD (Head-Up Display) and needed to maintain the same price point.

 

The parking assist "feature" requires more effort and time to learn to use than it takes to learn how to park.

 

Not if you skip the pre-support system. Unfortunately, too many Five with ATP owners have never tried skipping the pre-support system and don't know any better.

 

I would have paid more for them. At least give me the option.

 

After 1,000 miles, I'm comfortable with pulse and glide. I don't mind spending the time to learn how to use the feature. I love these kind of techno features. The geek in me speaks.
