Well, I just got home to log my MPG's into Fuelly, and am excited to say that I just reached my highest MPG level of 67.4 MPG, over the course of 521.0 miles!

I have about 8k miles on the C3 so far, I love the little car. I'm in college so it's the perfect go to work-school-home type of car.

The reason this tank was almost 10mpg better than my last was because I tried using E0 fuel. That's right, ethanol free gasoline. I am fortunate to have a gas station that sells it "for recreation" although it is at 90 octane, which is a bit higher than the recommended 87 octane fuel. Is this hurting anything?

I don't have a scangauge, but I use the screen that tracks your battery level (on the far right it shows your instant MPG consumption). I use that instead of the scangauge, and on the smaller screen at the top, I use the ECOscore screen.

More or less I wanted to see what the thoughts were on using 90 octane fuel.. Using pure gas is a bit more expensive ($4.19/gal when regular grade is currently at $3.60/gal in my area). The extra cost and extra MPG's almost seem to cancel each other out.. I am not done with my testing yet as I plan to fuel up 3 or 4 times in order to develop a solid pattern before I decide which I should stay with. In the meantime, am I hurting my engine using a 90 octane fuel?
    Thanks for your thoughts!

Awesome MPG! I don't believe higher octane will hurt, I know you can't go the other way but you should be safe. I'm a little amazed that being out in the country where I am I can't find any e0 fuel.

Sounds a little pricey though - let me know how the experiment turns out!

You know, I thought the same thing initially.. But filling up my tank is still only around $30 give or take a few..(Today's fillup was $33 and some change). I quickly saw that "expensive gas" really doesn't mean all that much when you only get 8 gallons at a time! ;) I will be sure to keep everyone here posted, I myself am curious to see which is the better route in the long run!

    521/67.4 = 7.7 gallons
    521/57.4 = 9.1 gallons

    7.7 x 4.19 = $32.26
    9.1 x 3.60 = $32.76

Using your figures and rounding off to a decimal point, indicates that the fuel cost between the two choices is slight.
Ethanol is not particularly good for engines and can actually cause harm in older cars.

One or two tanks is not enough to draw any concrete conclusions, so let us know what transpires down the line.

If the 0 ethanol gas available to you is of high quality, I would continue to use it if the difference in price stays along the same lines. I cannot find any in my area, so I am jealous, as I'd like to try some experimentation on my own.

By the way, if you get a few more MPG on your next tank of 500+ miles, you can add yourself to this list and disappoint a Prius liftback driver who wishes he/she had a Prius c. :)

99.9 MPG huh? Wowza. How'd you manage that one? My battery won't last that long! Haha. Thanks for crunching the numbers for me. It's a pretty great little car!

You can see that I only used the traction battery 78% of the time. :)

I'd like to know the circumstances surrounding the record. It looks like the secret was to drive slowly. I get great mpg when passing through a neighboring subdivision--100 mpg, but when I have to go faster it drops. The final average mpg for a commute to work tends to be in the 50s and 60s.

To UFOURYA or anyone else: The UROURYA thread shows a picture of a Prius C trip report within the thread message. Can anyone tell me the key stroke procedure how to display a picture within a thread posted in this site. I assume the picture is taken from a digital camera as a jpeg file?

I tend to disagree. While driving slower may result in better MPG's the average speed doesn't really seem very accurate to me. It's considering sitting at a red light a speed of zero, and so on. So far this tank looks pretty promising. 74.5MPG indicated, average speed of 26MPH. My commute is 30MPH in my neighborhood, 40MPH to the highway which is 55MPH, then 40MPH to work, and my average speed is somewhere in the mid 20's. I think it's because of stops.. We will see though.

I'm hoping that my current tank will beat my previous best. I don't think the spike in milage is just the E0 fuel, I think it's a combination of things. I've put on window visors which seem to have helped reduce wind inside by a TON (I only ride with the windows down and less wind inside means less drag on the car). I've also been becoming very efficient at using my battery to its fullest potential (I used to keep throttle at the highest point to maintain speed, and have now learned that it drains the battery quicker for literally no speed gain..) Things like that on top of coasting as far back as reasonable with traffic have been working to my advantage. I'm excited to see if I make the top 20 list!

Another great tank, even better than my last. Check it out!

Another really cool screen that I didn't know the car could display is below. It's for your best 3 tanks, and it shows where your current tank ranks compared to all fillups in the cars history. It's turned off by default, which can easily be changed. Pretty nifty I think! Record.JPG

If you press the trip button while on this screen, you'll see the top 3 trips for trip A & trip B (which are "tanks" if you reset them each tank) and the current "from start" mpg, as well as your current ranking in each.

I got 70 mpg on my 12.5 mile commute home from work yesterday. There is a learning curve to getting really good gas mileage. In stop and go traffic, if I can accelerate very gradually, I will do so to avoid turning on the gas engine. Sometimes I can't do that, because the cars ahead of me are speeding up faster than I can catch up with by accelerating gradually. In that case, I will accelerate quickly, and then coast.

I don't always get gas mileage this good, other times it is just over 50, but the high 50's and low 60's aren't uncommon.

Very cool. I am loving my Prius C. Take a peek at my MPG's on the drive home from work. This was taken just 20 minutes ago. It's one of my better commutes. Mid 70's are not uncommon since I've improved my personal technique for my commute to/from work and school.

My drives home from work are my best. It's not uncommon for me to get high 70's/low 80's. Even here in Florida, the elevation varies more than you'd think. Where I work is 30ft higher than home, which I think helps boost it. Not to mention, it's warm here right now (warm to say the LEAST.. 98 out right now) so the warm up cycle is quicker and my engine is more efficient than in the mornings when its only 80 out.. LOL

I own a 2012 Prius C 2 moonglow. My best MPG is 133.31. When the Trip Summary screen reads 99.9 MPG the actual MPG can be calculated using the formula MPG = trip distance x cost per gal. / cost per trip. Trip distance and cost per trip can be found on the trip summary screen when ignition is off and cost per gal. on the settings screen entered during the last fill-up. Example: 7.6 miles x $3.859 per gal. / .22 cents cost per trip = 133.31 MPG. I use a pocket calculator in the car to do the math. If you install an Ultra Gage or Scan Gage II you can read MPG above 99.9 MPG. I do no own them...
