Today I will make my first out of town trip in my Prius. It's only 200 miles but I'm excited about it. I'm going from Houston to Austin. My first tank I got 50 mpg and the second tank got 52.7. I wish I would have bought one years ago.

I can relate. I was excited about a one-hour drive to a shopping mall. Drove on the highway! Turned on the headlights! Even used the wipers!

Well I drove 200 miles yesterday from Houston to Austin and my average mpg is 50.0. It started with a 45 minute trip to go 10 miles, terrible traffic. Then up to speed. I drove 65-72 mph and endured many hills. I suspect the drive home might be a litter better as Sunday I should make it across Houston without as much traffic. I expect a little better mpg. Also I ran the AC the whole way. I will repost the results of my trip home.

I did 56 MPG with the CC & AC on. I was at 65MPH. You should do about the same. Let us know.

Your mileage should be less coming back to Houston as you'll have more of a headwind especially later in the day. Also, Sunday evening traffic heading back into any major urban center is usually very fast.

You were absolutely correct. I did have a pretty good head wind most all the way home and my mileage did fall. I stopped about 75 miles out and decided to check tire pressures. I had 30-32 lbs. I inflated to 42 front and 40 rear and my mileage picked up from 47.1 to 51 mpg for my last part of my trip. Just one question, is 42 & 40 too much pressure in my tires..
