Wonder how many people are actually hooking their mats in. The hooks exist for a reason. >.>

I am not sure of the technical merrits of various parties.

What I do know is toyota acted in bad faith in dealing with a safety agency and the US court system.

The number of people that injured or died because Toyota hid information from the NHTSA and refused their remedy of a brake interlock is likely small compared to the number that die from car crashes each year. The fact that it is more than one is unforgivable though. Unfortuantely I don't know other car makers that have not commited the same act. I don't really accept any excuses. We heard most of them at the time of the Ford Pinto, with ford refusing to make the car safer because it would cost money, and it still was safer than other cars.

No more excuses. Its time for the car makers to start acting like good corporate citizens.

At least the most publicized deaths were because a dealer installed mats improperly and ignored reports of unintended acceleration. We do have 4 deaths in texas with the floor mats in the trunk after the news about entrapment broke.

About three years ago I was assisting an elderly women with some packages into her older Lexus Es. I just happened to notice she had "three" sets of mats on top of one another. I mentioned to her how dangerous this could be as the accelerator pedal could get stuck. Whether she acted on my advice I do not know. However, I clearly saw the problem up close how people can put themselves in harms way!
